1.0 out of 5 stars A terrible return to the Tardis, 10 Jun. 2006
The return of Doctor Who was something i would have liked and production by the BBC would keep it close to its roots, this is how i thought it would be. Sadly it really wasnt. The stories are awful the doctor is annoying and way too much emphasis is placed on his assistant. The Daleks have feelings now making their return cringeworthy, and the less said about the other adverseries the better. Worst of all the episodes are very short meaning that most bad guys are defeated in one episode, not really much point keeping the audience on edge with six part episodes with lots of story i guess. Popping back home to Roses time to visit her mum because she misses home makes things even more cringeworthy(and they still do this in the new series!!), perhaps it would be better to just leave her there. I loved Doctor Who when I was a child and this is nothing like it was. At best this is an example of really bad acting coupled with impatient story telling, enemies are given a few minutes to present themselves befor the next few minutes allow the Doctor to save the day. Even worse it reminds me of all the programms i dislike on television thers no way i could look back on this series fondly its just awful, bad, bad television.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect introduction., 23 Aug. 2005
For lovers of Japanese animation there are two titles that seem to be well known Akira and Ghost in the shell. Both carry a strong support of fans and with this film you may find yourself joining them.
Ghost in the shell is set in the future where cybernetics has led to a new evolution in mankind, allowing humans to become enhanced or completly immersed in prosthetic bodies. The further advancements in computer technology also allows these advancments to change the quality of life for the people of this time, and also allow for new waves of crime and terrorism.
We are introduced to the public security section 9 a group led by chief Aramaki who are hot on the tail of a cyber terrorist known as the puppet master.
Ghost in the shell features the same style of dialoge that the books from Shirow Masamune wrote. As such the science aspects are complex but interesting, however the true beauty of this film lies in the philisophical concept of the title. The ghost refering to the equivelent of a soul, and the importance of individuality amoungst those who are now encased in almost identical prosthetic bodies. The main charecter Major Motoko Kusinage is a full cyborg, who dispalys thoughts and feelings on her own individuality through the films amazing visuals or conversations with her own team members.
The film follows this theme to its conclusion while giving plenty of action and visuals along the way. Some may be quick to dismiss this film as an arthouse kind of film, but in my opinion it is a fantastic film that rewads the patient viewer. The soundtrack by Kenji Kwai is a beautiful and haunting score featuring traditional japanese instruments and music styles mixed with fantastic singing and ambient sounds.
In short this film is an amazing experience that truly feels like a good movie should, leaving you with something to think about. If your a fan of adult cinema but want to steer clear of overloads of sex and violence then this should be your first stop. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the older series I-pod, 6 Feb. 2005
After numerous problems with the origional I-pod (software problems battery probs ect) I bought this new series model.
If you have the old i-pod and i-tunes you will have to un-install i-tunes and install the disc given with the i-pod or you will get software conflicts and spend a long time with the Apple tech line!
Overall this model is a big improvment on the origional, the click wheel is less sensetive than the old touch buttons and you can still store about 5000 tracks on the device. The new i-tunes appart from a few display changes is not too different from the first version. And there seems to be no battery problems, now the ipod will automaticly begin the re-charge sequence as soon as it is plugged into your PC which makes a difference on the origional which seemed to lose significant power once connected away from its mains source. For its potential to hold so much of your favorite music its well worth a look in even though many companies have reproduced this player in there own way I still prefer the convenience of this new model. Its a good purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Hinata Apartments!, 29 Jan. 2005
I was first drawn to this anime by the manga by Ken Akamatsu,
which like this dvd show the series of good and unfortunate events that Keitaro Urashima experiences. Keitaro is set to fail his exams to get into Tokyo university, which he is trying to get into in order to keep a promise with a girl he knew when he was young. However he has failed twice befor and then is given the position of the apartment manager of the Hinata apartments an all girls dorm. Will the girls ever learn to like him and what chance has Keitaro of getting into Tokyu U.
The series is very coulorfull and full of cheeky humor. As far as down to earth anime goes this is great, and well worth watching if you want to get into a realy fun show. You only have to see the high octaine intro music to see what kind of show you're in for. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect companion for an amazing film., 19 Oct. 2003
This review is from: Donnie Darko [Score] (Audio CD)
When I heard this soundtrack for the first time I was stunned by how beautifly haunting it was. I listened until the end and was compelled to listen again. The three versions of mad world are beautiful, forcing you to pay attention to the heartfelt lyrics and the delicate music. In short buy this soundtrack and share the sense of wonder that I felt when I watched the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning artist., 26 Aug. 2003
This review is from: She Hangs Brightly (Audio CD)
A friend of mine introduced me to this album recentley, I can only say that you must own this CD. The songs are beautiful and intimate, often using a mix of different guitar styles, however it is Mazzy Stars vocals which bring her unique and sometimes haunting style to this CD. Listening to she hangs brigtley reminds me of many memories personal to me which in the end I beleive is what music should be able to do. In short buy this album!
