It has to be said that this book is an accurate representation of post-modernist feminism. It is also a mirror to Ms Penny's personality. A case of art imitating life. Like her it is spoiled self indulgent narcissistic, sloppy and divorced from the real world. It bears as much resemblance to contemporary society as one of Georgette Heyer's regency novels. However, Ms Heyer's demure regency maidens had far more spirit, courage and honesty than Ms Penny who publicly admitted she lacked the courage to share a platform with Dr David Starkey. Don't buy this book, if you want to read about a real feminist icon, read Margaret Thatcher's biography

This film was an attempt to jump on the King's Speech bandwagon and it failed. It was truly awful. It managed to be completely historically inaccurate whilst failing to capture the spirit or character of the main protagonists. You can forgive minor inaccuracies if the work demonstrates a wider historical truth. This didn't illustrate anything except the vacuity of the scriptwriter and director.
This was both inaccurate and failed to capture any element of the spirit of the age. Bill Murray was awful as Roosevelt. Samuel West, a fine actor, either woefully miscast, or woefully misdirected as George VI, and the woman who played Queen Elizabeth bore as much relation her as a Chihuahua to an Irish Wolfhound, identifiably the same species but that's about it.
Save your money and watch The King's Speech again. I wish I had.

This is a big story but it just didn't grab me. There's not enough about the key players and events and way too much back story. It also irritated me that she ended up with King Albert, whoever that was meant to be. Either that was an unforgivable error for a historian or she was trying to make a clever point. What the particular point was I couldn't fathom. Basically this was dire.

I can't say how much I love this camera. I did quite a bit of photography when I was younger & wanted to get back & join the digital revolution without lugging heavy SLRs around. So pleased I bought the GX1. It gives pin sharp photos & is very easy to use. I've taken some fantastic bird shots with it & amazing landscapes. I would definitely buy the optional view finder as well. It is worth every penny

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but flawed, 22 Jan. 2012

Providing your brain is in neutral, and you are in need of some undemanding entertainment this book is a good read in a Georgette Heyer sort of way. The book does have the odd decent plot twist but they are frequently improbable.
However, what was really tiresome about the book was that it was shot through with anti-English and class prejudices. Maybe the writer actually believes these prejudices or perhaps he just wants to sell books to guardianistas. The Bernie Gunther series is far better.
