1.0 out of 5 stars useless & expensive, 10 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Had to be installed twice (quick instructions misleading. had to do it all again from disk). Unreliable on wifi ( gave up and used USB) Takes ages to print anything. I have had printers that cost a quarter if the price that were far better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Variable quality, 10 May 2013

Some of the stories in this collection are dreadful. Others are very good. It doesn't cost much, so it is still quite good value.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating read, 23 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An interesting account of the history of alchemy. I was hoping for a little more on the early, graeco-roman period, but the lack of material is historical, and not the author's fault. He makes an interesting case for the theories of some of the Arabic alchemists to be considered as proto-scientific. This is not a book for New Age types, but for those with a rational interest in the subject.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 29 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not much fiction in this issue. Some speculative journalism. Too expensive for what it is. An issue of New Scientist (to which Arc is related) offers much more, and much better, science journalism at a lower price. Arc will have to improve if it is to survive.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but ..., 3 Dec. 2010

This remote works correctly with the Sony VTX-D800U freeview receiver. But, despite having all the right buttons, it cannot control a TV as well. Some other suppliers make that clear, but I only discovered it by trial and error.
Good if you don't mind using a second remote for the TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm pleased, 9 Oct. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It arrived quickly, well packaged, as specified. It was easy to set up and use. Neatly combines 2 satellite recivers (HD) with one terrestrial receiver (HD in France, where I am using it, but possibly not in the UK). It allows recording on one or two channels while watching another. Lots of inputs and outputs (you can find all the specs on the Technomate website).
I am pleased to have bought such a good product at a reasonable price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work, 19 Nov. 2009

It didn't work for me. Maybe the problem is in my hardware, (I wanted to connect a PC to an AV receiver) but I couldn't get a signal out of it.

A History of Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years
A History of Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent overview, 19 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book goes with a TV series, but it is not the over-illustrated coffee-table type book you might expect. On the contrary, it is long (1150 pages) and scholarly, though not dauntingly so. The style is readable and engaging, and the book provides an excellent overview of the history of Christianity. It begins with Judaism and Greek philosophy, giving the background to religious thought in the Roman period. It then covers the origins of Christianity, before going on to trace its development and the varying forms it took as it spread over the world. The mainstream of Catholic / Protestant /Orthodox Christianity is well covered, but the book is particularly good on the odd corners of Christianity, such as the sects that took hold in China and India.
The tone is mildly sceptical, but respectful, so believers and non-believers will find nothing to object to, and both will learn much about what Christianity actually is.
Highly recommended.

Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Black

4.0 out of 5 stars good, so far, 7 Oct. 2009

It looks a bit clunky, but it was easy to set up, just plug in and go. Despite what some reviewers have said, there is an indicator light to show that it's working: it's on the back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Got it working!, 8 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I couldn't get it working at first. The trick is:

1 load the driver. It's on a mini CD, folded into the packaging. I didn't see it at first.

2 find out which com port it's using. You can do this by looking at Control panel/System/hardware/Device manager/Ports.
It was Com 4 on my system.

Having done all that, it works perfectly, connecting my antique Garmin etrex via usb.
