5.0 out of 5 stars The Life of Putin, 29 Jan 2013

This review is from: Putin (Hardcover)
This book is very well written not only covering the life and rise of Mr Putin but how he has made his millions and how he clings to power for him and his cronies, and the fact he has introuduced a truncated form of democracy in Russia.

Well worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Life of Bessie Braddock, 29 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Although this book is very brief it lifts the lid however on the life of a very popular MP for Liverpool Bessie Braddock.
Sadly she passed away in 1970 so has been forgotton in some quarters but her life is an inspiration and an example on how to be a good constituency MP, which sadly has been eclipised by Milatant running Liverpool City Council in the 1980's with Derek Hatton et al (who know ironically lives in Spain as a millionaire property developer).

Bessie and her husband did great things for Liverpool which should always be remembered.

Well worth buying a very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Swinging Sixties, 26 Jan 2013

A very comprehensive and through book covering the politics, pop scene, and social aspects of the 1960's.
You can tell the Author has such a passion for the era and no stone is left unturned, no topic that has been omitted, you feel that you are observing the totality of the era.
The Author presents the facts and manages not to be prejudice or judgemental, although a hugh tome but well worth sticking with it, a book you can't put down an excellent read and well worth purchasing a copy.

The Accidental American: Tony Blair and the Presidency
The Accidental American: Tony Blair and the Presidency
by James Naughtie
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Blairs Wars and Blunders, 26 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very detailed behind the scenes account of the conduct of Tony Blair and his reationship with US President George W Bush.
The book clearly shows how the special realtionship is often a one way street, and only works if it is in the interest of the President and America.
There many instances where Blair was marginlised by the hawks although Blair managed to convince Bush to go down the UN route to at least Blair could placate his backbenchers and party members although to no avail.
Although Blair achieved many great domestic policies sadly this is all forgotton by walking into the Iraq war sadly Blair felt he had no choice but to back Bush, its a shame we will never know if he did distance himself from the Bush administration and the war how his premiership would now be viewed.
A good read and well worth purchasing.

The Obamas: A Mission, A Marriage
The Obamas: A Mission, A Marriage
by Jodi Kantor
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars The Obamas: A Mission, A Marriage, 9 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A facinating insight into the Obama White House by the author who has interviewed a range of various members of staff, family and friends, that highlight the frustration of the First Lady trying to carve out a meaningful role not taking on to many functions concentrating on the campaigns that matter to her mainly relating to the wellbeing of young people, and the tensions between the East and West Wing members of Staff and how she got into her stride and became more popular with the Americian public than her husband.

Along with the frustations of the President trying to get his policies through a gridlocked Congress who hated his policies such as health care and the stimulus, and his disconnection with the public.

Also very interesting highlights of meetings in the White House discussing policy and in the begining showing a very disfunctional operation with polarising figures such as Rahm Emmunuel and Valerie Jarrett.

All in all a very good read.

A very good quality set of figures depicting each regeneration of the 11 Doctors.

Very good likeness and sealed in a TARDIS presentation box open up the TARDIS doors to reveal all the figures.

They can be taken out and added with sonic screw drivers, umbrellas, walking sticks etc all relevant to the character that used them in the old and new TV series.

on the sides are photographs and years that that actor played the Doctor, with a short description of their character/personality.

A must have for any Doctor Who Fan.
