Disappointing purchase, 3 Sep 2009
Traffic is too dry for the fun of a good read and too thin for serious social study. It reads like one large chapter of introduction or a very stretched essay. I expected more depth in the overall subject in structured layers and chapters. Instead, Vanderbilt keeps skimming the surface by jumping between a large variety of researches and studies, relating it to his person and own experiences. That could work if you start to sympathise or get involved with the main character. But I didn't. I put it away halfway through, because I could not be bothered anymore. Maybe I'm not that much of a petrolhead.
