A fine well illustrated book covering the changes to both the British and more so American Continental forces during this long conflict the American author uses three battles to highlight these changes,i would say that some previous knowledge of the era is essential to avoid things becoming a little confusing, more than a overview for a book that can be read in one sitting and a good buy for those interested in the American revolution.

Another fine product from this publisher photographs coupled to detailed captions giving date and location plus a history of the coaster featured as these little ships worked and some still work all over Europe and further afield you do not have to be from the area to have seen them photographs of the now closed local shipyard are full of interest making very clear the skills this country has thrown away in recent times, one little complaint this one is a softback unlike the others I have,it keeps cost down I know but books this good should all be hardback.

Another very well produced book doing just what the title implies using very well taken photographs to illustrate these now very rare ships every photograph comes with a very informative caption, ships featured were built around the British coast and some from yards elsewhere in the world but not one of them is a functional plug ugly that's for sure.

A very nice little book although none of the prints apart from on the cover are reproduced in colour there are plenty of them it is not in any way a pamphlet, bought at a modest price this second hand book is well worth a place on the bookshelf of any one interested in railway history or just the era itself, highly recommended.

For me a swashbuckling blast from the past and a lot of fun that is ideal for a rainy Sunday afternoon the children and grandchildren will enjoy this one as well as we olds the transfer to DVD is very good, I well remember the lead actress who appears today in a very popular soap being the envy of every girl I knew, good uncomplicated stories on two disks.

This review is from: The Pickwick Papers (1985) (DVD)
This was bought to replace a Video tape version and is a Dutch import though the actors have not been dubbed and it is subtitled in Dutch these are easily taken of screen you start your DVD and go to your subtitles button on your handset and turn them of this worked on my player so should be pretty universal (you could have to go into your tv menu on some sets) this Pickwick Papers is well produced well acted and something all of the family can enjoy.

A very well written book detailed but never confusing that takes you back to 1830 and the very early days of the Railway I was one of those that used to feel that after 1815 to the Zulu war not much happened apart from the Crimean war perhaps then I discovered the Victorian Engineers I realised how wrong I had been,Mr Garfields book is a keeper one of those books that it is a pleasure to own bringing to life the era and the brilliance and hard work of the builders also the very sad end to the life of William Huskisson ,I recently saw some prints made at the time of the opening showing I think Wapping tunnel and at the same time was shown a photograph of the same sight today a place that should be cared for every bit as much as our Cathedrals it looked like a overgrown rubbish dump and I felt very much like the Author when he visited Huskissons tomb.

For me one of the best depictions of this famous story why it has not been transferred to DVD is beyond me, full of atmosphere from the very start parts played by well known actors of the time many sadly no longer with us and a real treat for those who love pirate films.

3.0 out of 5 stars A missed opportunity to make a good film about this part of the Great War, 22 Mar. 2015
A missed opportunity to make a good film about this part of the Great War,the film is a mishmash covering two love stories a lecherous shirker and a insane Italian Commander had the characters been more developed it could have been much more than what it is,the film is watchable but no more than that.
