5.0 out of 5 stars excellent sympho-rock record, 8 May 2008
Concerto Grosso 3 is a new record from legendary Italian progressive rockers, and for me it is the best symphonic rock album of the year 2007.
The record can be described in one word - excellent, and it is excellent in every way - the melodies are outstanding, the musicianship is of highest quality, the production is top notch.
The record stands proud among countless numbers of releases of various modern progressive rock bands which one can hardly tell one from another.
Having heard this record, you will never forget it!
The music is of the same highest quality as Concerto Grosso 1, but more mature and a bit more commercial with substantial emphasis on orchestral parts.

Listening to this record is a never-ending pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars a masterpiece of Italian prog, 8 May 2008
This review is from: Concerto Grosso (Audio CD)
Concerto Grosso 1 (1971) is an undesputable masterpiece of Italian sympho-rock and one of the best sympho-rock records ever recorded.
This record is a must for all progressive rock lovers.
The second concert (1976) is not as good, but also is worth a listen, and can be considered a bonus.
All in all IMHO there are about 60 minutes of excellent music recorded on this CD (whole CG 1 and half of CG 2).

BTW, in 2007 New Trolls released Concerto Grosso 3 also being a masterpiece.

3.0 out of 5 stars The same footage as before, 30 April 2008
This review is from: Asia - Rock Legends [DVD] (DVD)
This DVD contains the same 52 minutes of show which was released in 2001 on DVD by Classic Rock Productions (the one with Roger Dean's snake on the cover).
So here we have the same show but with different DVD cover and without any bonus features.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have!, 12 Feb. 2008
A must-have!

Well, this is a long-awaited DVD, which enables us to see the classic UH of David Byron, Mick Box, Ken Hensley, Lee Kerslake and Gary Thain/John Wetton with live footage from 1973 - 1976 first time on DVD in remastered quality with good sound (DTS, DD5.1 or DD2.0). Here is the tracklist:

1. Sunrise '73
2. Tears in My Eyes '73
3. Traveller in Time '73
4. Love Machine '74
5. So Tired '74
6. The Easy Road '74
7. Rock'n'roll Medley '74
8. Return To Fantasy '75
9. Easy Livin' '75
10. Stealin' '75
11. Prima Donna '75
12. Shady Lady '75
13. July Morning Montage '73-'76
Bonus tracks
1. Easy Livin'74
2. Stealin' '74

1973 footage: live in Budokan - video is good/audio is good
1974 footage: live in Shepperton - video is satisfactory/audio is good
1975 footage: live in USA - video is (almost) good/audio is satisfactory (mono!)

The material presented on this DVD is simply priceless since it is the only possibility to see UH in full glory at their peak, so it is a must-have for every UH fan. The restorators did a great job to give the material the best presentation possible.

But, as it is not uncommon with ClassicRockProductions releases, there is a fly in the ointment: in the annotation at the back cover 17 songs with 76 minutes duration are mentioned, while only 15 are listed and physically present at the disk, its actual running time being equal to 71 minutes. So either these two songs were omitted at the last moment or the person who wrote the notes did it for some other DVD! In any case such discord is inadmissible. Besides, the DVD is dedicated to the memory of David Byron and Gary Thain, and it is natural to expect some information about them in special features section - some kind of biography/discography with photo gallery. But nothing of this kind is there - no special features at all! Well, to make such articles about these great musicians it is not necessary to find some rare tapes and thoroughly restore them, spending a lot of time and money - all one has to do is to write a small article and place it on DVD! Or am I asking too much?

All in all, it is a very good DVD with great content, and I would give it a five star rating, but due to the above mentioned drawbacks one star should be deducted.

5.0 out of 5 stars their best!, 12 Feb. 2008
It is strange to see that this great album has only one rewiew.
I consider this CD the best in all discography of Pallas. This conceptual album (a kind of science vs. religion) is their peak, the next one (Dreams of Men) is also a strong record, but it lacks the perfection and elegance of it's predecessor. Definitely my favourite album of 2001.
Highly recommended for all lovers of good progressive rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds unusual, but definitely Yes!, 6 Feb. 2008

Sounds unusual, but definitely Yes!

This is a very good DVD revealing a new side of Yes music - their old hits gain new life in acoustic version. The sound is a bit unusual for this group - it has warm jazzy feel, and is very natural. No distortion devices are used, and one can hear the real sound of the instruments. All components of the DVD are exceptional: video, audio mix, design/menus and special features: rehearsal footage narrated by Rick.
The only drawback is the concert being too short, but it was the limitation of satellite transmission.
Anyway, I enjoyed every minute of this show.

So here is what you get for your money:

Disk One (DVD9) - about 130 min. of the concert
NEARfest, Bethlehem, PA, USA: July 9th, 2005

1. Sacred Sound
2. It All Stops Here
3. Leap Of Faith
4. Born Brilliant
5. The Seventh House
6. Drum Solo
7. No Love Lost
8. Widow's Peak
9. The Narrow Margin (middle section)
10. Guiding Light
11. Harvest Of Souls
Encores (placed into the bonus features section of DVD)
12. Awake And Nervous
13. The Last Human Gateway (middle section)
14. The Wake

The audio (DD2.0 and DD5.1) is very good, while video quality is only average (and it is not a surprise since almost all concert (98 percent of it, to be exact) is placed on one layer of DVD9).

Disc Two (DVD9) - about 100 min. of the show
Burg Herzberg Festival, Germany: July 16th, 2005

1. Sacred Sound
2. It All Stops Here
3. Born Brilliant
4. The Seventh House
5. Drum Solo
6. No Love Lost
7. Leap Of Faith
8. The Wake
9. Harvest Of Souls
10. Awake And Nervous

The audio is good (also DD2.0 and DD5.1, but not as good as on DVD1), while video quality is better.
The rest of bonus features is of any interest for die-hard fans only, and I would rather omit them at all to free additional DVD space to have better quality of the main feature.

Both shows are very good, the first one being longer and featuring such favourites as Widow's Peak, while on the second the band seems more loose and enjoining the performance.

The only real draw-back is considerably high price for the set, but in the long run I think it is worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars some clarification, 5 Feb. 2008
I'd like to share some information about this particular record.
It is NOT the first Fleetwood Mac record (called "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac" with a litter bin on the front cover and released in 1968)!
Originally this record was a part of a double LP "The Original Fleetwood Mac/English Rose". The record (LP) under review was called "The Original Fleetwood Mac", released in 1971 (though all material was recorded earlier in the late sixties) and contained 12 tracks (1 - 12 of this release) with liner notes by Mike Vernon who was a producer. I think it was released just after Peter Green left the group. On CD it was released in the middle of 90-ies by Castle records (in 1994) and later re-issued by Blue Horizon.
It is one of my favourite records of classic line-up with Peter Green.
Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless!, 31 Jan. 2008
Get this DVD, find three hours of spare time (some good wine may also come handy), and enjoy the Yes magic: you will be amazed at the quality of this show!

At last the magic and power of Yes performance was caught on DVD with proper quality both of video and audio - the picture and sound are both great, DTS surround track is incredible.
I am not going to give you the details - you will see it yourself, here is just my impression of this magnificent show.

The band is at its best - the musicians are enjoying the show, and the orchestra gives the band as good as it gets, really having a good time on stage. The interaction of the band and the orchestra is a creative one; they complement each other giving Yes music another dimension: just check the brilliant performance of my all-time Yes favorites "The Gates of Delirium" and "Close to the Edge"!

Standing ovation of the audience is its way of sincere appreciation of timeless music and unforgettable evening.

This DVD is an exemplary case when everything's in proper place: excellent performance of the band/orchestra and exceptional quality of DVD itself. This is definitely the best Yes DVD so far.

This DVD is a must - you will enjoy the show over and over again!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Hair of the Dog, but 'SNAZ!, 7 Dec. 2007
First I'd like to stress two points:
a) this DVD contains exactly the same material as "Live in Texas" DVD released in 2004 (the only difference is the cover with a new name, Deadline/Cleopatra did not even bother to make a new DVD menu and put this new name into video itself) - you are welcome to read my review about that DVD
b) this is not "Hair of the Dog Live", it's rather "The Fool Circle Live" or "'SNAZ" with material from 6-piece band 1981 USA tour (the manufacturers are just using more attractive name to sell the same stuff one more time).

And now some quotes from the cover:
"... this awesome footage has been digitally remastered and enhanced ..."
"Special features: Never before seen footage"
Unfortunately, it is not true. This is a simple transfer from old original VHS tape without any remastering, nothing was added (or enhanced) - it is the same material.
This footage was released first on VHS tape, and then on "Live in Texas" DVD - so it can hardly be called "never seen before".

1. Telegram
2. Razamanazz
3. Holiday
4. Hearts Grown Cold
5. Cocaine
6. Let me be your Leader
7. Dressed to Kill
8. Pop the Silo
9. Love Hurts
10. Hair of the Dog
11. Expect no Mercy
12. Shapes of Things

And one more thing for Deadline/Cleopatra: the last song is called "Shapes of Things" composed by the Yardbirds members, and not "Shapes of things to Come" as they wrote at the cover.

As far as I can see, all contribution from Deadline/Cleopatra during production of this DVD is the new cover (as well as free poster and a sticker)!
