5.0 out of 5 stars A labour of love by fans for fans, 17 July 2014

Incredibly this is even better than the first one. A wonderfully produced nostalgia trip that will bring a tear to the eye of any 80's nasty fan. You really do get an amazing amount of stuff here (13 hours!) for your money and it's all killer and no filler. The documentary is both a portrayal of the second wave of hysteria from the government, again fuelled by the media, and a fascinating insight into the operation of the BBFC at the time, particularly it's leader James Ferman. Add to this lots of stories from the video collectors, who were made to feel like criminals, and how they got around the bans by delving into the underground world of film swapping, film fairs and festivals where everyone had their all important 'list'. That alone would be enough, but you also get 2 more great discs on which a great selection of experts discuss each of the 82 'section 3' nasties in turn accompanied by the films original trailer. There are also image galleries, including covers from all the fanzines of the time which brought back many great memories for me of good times and good friends. An essential purchase.

Worth downloading for the fantastic Rowland S Howard track alone. There's some other pretty good tracks too. It's free so what are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars Could we have reanimator next please?, 8 Jun. 2012

Wow what a fantastic release this is. The care and attention spent on the packaging design, blu-ray upgrade and extras is unbelievable for what many may consider as a cheesy throw away 80's horror film. I'd not seen this for ages and watching it again was like a breath of fresh (or should that be putrid) air, as it's lost none of its charm. What makes this film stand out is the wonderful O'Bannon script full of great characters and dialogue that is truly laugh out loud hilarious. It looks like it was a lot of fun to make, which is why it is surprising to find out it was actually an unhappy and chaotic shoot. We need more releases like this, the bar has been raised, and the fact that this is selling so well on amazon (number 11 in the blu-ray charts at time of writing) is very encouraging. If the long awaited reanimator blu-ray ever comes out this is the quality we now expect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse Wow!, 19 Jun. 2011

I have seen this film several times on various formats over the years but the quality of this blu-ray really is something else! The colour, sound and general clarity are breath-taking, hugely adding to the beautiful, hallucinatory atmosphere of this spell binding classic. Nicely packaged with a decent booklet and postcards and tons of extras. Most importantly this also includes brilliant making of documentary 'Hearts of Darkness', which makes you wonder how amongst the copious drug consumption, heart attacks, nervous breakdowns and general madness this ever got made at all. An essential purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as big a departure as you might think, 19 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Congratulations (Audio CD)
I finally got round to getting this album (bargain price..thanks amazon) probably put off with all the talk of a massive departure, no hits, experimental etc (and that was the good reviews). Well I can happily say that thats not true at all. I honestly can't see how those who loved oracular spectacular don't rate this. It's packed full of catchy tunes, ideas, originality and possibly their best song yet in the form of frenetic opener 'it's working.' A great modern psychadelic classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cussing fantastic!, 20 Mar. 2010

Just livened up a wet Saturday afternoon watching this film with my three little girls (ages 6,5 and 3). This really does work on all levels. As a Wes Anderson fan I wasn't disappointed with the incredible design, originality, great music and dead pan dialog, whilst the kids were mesmerized by the fast pace and often hilarious set pieces. Yes it is different to the book (which I also love) but I think Dahl would approve as it definitely retains the spirit of the original and in some ways adds more. The animation is beautiful and looks particularly rich on Blu-ray.
