walimex pro 100cm Light Stand Boom/Light Stand Arm with 2 Screw Clamps
walimex pro 100cm Light Stand Boom/Light Stand Arm with 2 Screw Clamps
Price: £48.79

2.0 out of 5 stars Bought from this seller but from another site. This ..., 14 Jan. 2015
Bought from this seller but from another site.

This boom does the job but isn't very convenient for stands with small diameter or when a knob prevent you from sliding them inside the nut lock. This means it has to be fully opened in order to insert a pole, but as one of the handles is fixed to the central rod, only the opposite side will let you do so without too much of a hassle.
Of course, there's no way to tell which is which without trying your luck.

The tightening doesn't feel really secure so I won't trust it with a fresnel, only cheap led lights.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job and is ok to start with but you probably will want to upgrade later, 20 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pros:
- cheap price in general (especially this one) and does the job
- the swing-away works well and won't move much when secured (even if it's done with a tiny bolt)
- height can be adjusted
- the 2 lateral rods are secured very tightly and won't move (even if I have yet to get the C-shaped bracket)

Cons:
- two pieces to unscrew to change the donuts (unless I'm mistaken, it's the only way to access them)
- donut diameter of about 5 inches, makes it hard to find a universal one that fits
- can't be adjusted left and right
- the bolts allowing to move the french-flags need to be looked after, to ensure they don't get too loose and fall
- cheap packaging, everything just wrapped in plastic film (you can say it fits the price and makes it lower), probably responsible for the next point
- one french flags was scratched, another a little embossed (it could be only my set and I don't really care nor want to deal with a return just for this)

ISSUES ENCOUTERED

- Once closed, the mattebox wasn't aligned with the lens:
The swing away is made by a metal plate (you can see a bit of it on the first picture, the part with 2 holes, on the right of the filter trays) that was bent a little, preventing the box from being perfectly perpendicular to the lens. I had to disassemble it to bent it the right way (it is done by removing 6 little screws fixed on the outside [the front] of the box). It doesn't take long.
I did this to fix the issue without having to deal with returning the item.

- light coming from the back of the rig:
The donuts don't do a perfect job on my rig, the lens is almost at the right height (Y axis) but not in the centre on the X axis (left-right). I'm looking for a universal donut that would fit the mattebox, but they seem to be all cut for smaller openings (105mm while this one is about 125). Their price are almost half of this mattebox so it's best to do some research before buying one.

TIP
The 2 bolts on the top french-flag are fixed from the outside (front) of the mattebox, but if you reverse their positions, the bar door can then be fully lowered to cover the lens when not used. (Like on more expensive matteboxes.)

Finally, it's cheap and it does the job, but if you're serious about filming, you'll probably want get a better one some day. The design isn't the much convenient (apart for the swing away), so a few things (might) need to be adjusted, and universal donuts seem mandatory (to better block the light but also because it takes long to change one).
I wonder if the M2 isn't better actually. It would be sturdier and from what I've seen of 'Behind the scenes' docu, this is the more common style and it doesn't that long to move it to change lens or anything else.

RECOMMENDATION
I'm still happy with my purchase but if a single filter tray is enough for you (or if you use circular ones), look for the Kamerar version that can be found around here: its design seems to address many of the flows depicted here and it comes with a universal donut.

The delivery was more expensive that the ring itself but the build doesn't look bad and it was a happy purchase.
(Plus the fact that it took only two days to receive it.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap price but good quality, 20 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are tons of reviews on YouTube for you to watch and make your mind before buying but here are my thoughts.

Although it doesn't cost a lot, it works well: everything is smooth, sturdy and look great. The hard-stops are really useful when you need to pull focus yourself and that's mainly why I went for this one.
Good point, the knobs are made of metal and not plastic, like the other items from Fotga. It comes with a gearbelt probably long enough to fit the cinema lenses so, no worries with DSLR ones.

The only cons would be the packaging which is way too cheap and mine looked like something refurbished...
...but when it comes at a good price, it doesn't matter much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but does the job well, 20 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pros:
- cheap price but looks very good and serious
- sturdy and works well
- height adjustable more than advertised (more than an inch) if needed - but not a perfect solution (might tilt left and right)

Cons:
- the blue plastic knobs which aren't that great, got to be careful with those to make them last (I will replace them all on my rig with metal ones: look around here for M5 thread knobs )

They say "Height can be adjusted from 65mm to 70mm" because it's designed that way. You can raise it more if needed but be aware that when doing so, it won't be as tight as before so your camera might tilt left or right if you push 'hard' on it. It's only about a millimeter but enough to have the camera not perfectly leveled with the horizon.
If needed, it is easily done -although I did unscrew the bottom plate to make it even easier. If you need to adjust the height, check that before installing all your accessories and fixing it to your fluid head, so you don't lose time like me.

It's fine for now but I'll be looking for a base plate riser (or even a better base plate).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, 12 Feb. 2014

Quality mount at a good price. I use it on my hybrid racing bike and once tightened, it won't move. I've seen many, many heavy showers but the mount still looks pristine.

I'd love a black version but I don't regret that purchase: that was some money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well with Gopros cameras, 12 Feb. 2014

I use a Hero+3 Black for shooting movies or timelapses and changing batteries isn't always possible, but with this great charger, the SD card will be full before the battery is depleted. I plug the gopro to the 1A ouput and can then record for hours.

The quality of this charger is on par with my action camera so I'm really pleased with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money - better to invest a bit more and go for a SP POV or something else, 7 Feb. 2014
Overall and from the outside, the quality looks alright: the stitches are good, the zips strong enough, the shell looks strong enough to protect our equipment.

But once opened, the story changes:
- most compartments don't fit anything special because they're too tights or strangely shaped
- using more strength to push the items in just make the others compartments smaller, due to the high density foam, and removing them gets more difficult
- the main shape of the foam doesn't fit perfectly to the case and so is slightly bent
- the foam smells (not the biggest issue of course)

Not a rip off but certainly not worth spending £15.

Zoom 408043 Bar End - Black(Pair)
Zoom 408043 Bar End - Black(Pair)
Price: £14.74

5.0 out of 5 stars A good item for a cheap price, 31 Jan. 2014

I just replaced my bar ends with those and, after a day of cycling, I don't have any regrets. They look and feel great, a very good purchase

What I like:
- the price (obviously)
- very light
- feel sturdy
- the anatomic shape that gives a good prehension with bevel cut on top for the thumbs (great when you don't wear your gloves/mitts)
- come with a pair of black caps (fit perfectly)

The only thing to consider would be the size of your hands: if you have very big hands, they might be a bit short for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings your phone's camera to a whole new level, 24 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Lens: very good. Fixed zoom but clear, easy to focus, looks and feel quite good for this little price.

Case: smooth rubber, very well made (good finition). The thread is a bit short for a heavy lens so it requires some care (no bumping, and holding the lens too when taking a picture).

Tripod + holder ring: the ring is very good, nice finish. The tripod isn't too bad to start with but you might consider getting a better one later.

Pouch: good for the lens but you won't put anything else inside as it isn't really big (anyway, you don't want the tripod rubbing against the aluminum shell of the lens). The case is definitely too big for the pouch.

Guide: very short but clear. (Only 1 bad point: it is a generic one, so the text speaks about 'our iPhone'. ;) )

Why getting a lens? Not only to have a decent zoom and avoiding using the digital one, but it also helps to get pictures with the focus on a subject plus a blurry background. The results are just astonishing for a smartphone!

For this, you just need a good application, and to easily manage the (auto)focus and do the most of the camera built in your phone, give a try to FV-5 (from Google Play: "Camera FV-5 is a professional camera application for mobile devices, that puts DSLR-like manual controls in your fingertips. Tailored to enthusiast and professional photographers, with this camera application you can capture the best raw photographs so that you can post-process them later and get stunning results. The only limit is your imagination and creativity!")
