This review is from: Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret (Audio CD)
Sleaze-tinged 80s Pop? Yes. Marc Almond's slightly dodgy lyrics and histrionic torch ballad vocals? Yes.

Just wanted to point out one thing though....Soft Cell were a duo. Its really Dave Ball's brilliant music and instrumentation that sets this album apart. Sophisticated and multi layered - it is all pulled together with some stunning one-finger-on-the-keyboard melodies that are so effective because they are so simple. This guy - together with Vince Clarke - shaped so much of 80s music and beyond. Just play it loud!

Bought this to go with a 2014 15" Retina Macbook Pro. Using the included miniDP to DP cable, it worked first time, at full resolution. The picture quality and sharpness is great. I also have a cheap HP 23" 1080p monitor that is connected to the laptop's other DisplayPort using a mDP to DVY Adapter. The Dell pciture makes the HP monitor look quite poor, but at least I have 4480x2520 across two screens.

The only niggle I've had is with the monitor's USB hub, which has been a bit hit and miss with some things - it doesnt like an Apple wired keyboard - refuses to work when connected to the monitor. (Fortunately the keyboard is fine when connected to the laptop, and it has 2 USB ports on each side of the keyboard anyway, so options are good).

Wish I could have afforded to of the Dell monitors!

The first order went AWOL and didn't arrive (still hasn't). The seller was contacted and immediately sent another or offered a refund, so full marks to them for that.

This is a very cheap kit so it seems churlish to complain too much about the tools, but the two blue plastic pry tools snap very easily and the suction cup is a bit weedy.

(The battery itself is fitted and working, it had ~30% charge so as soon as it was installed, the phone started up. It seems to be holding a charge much better than the clapped out one it replaced, hopefully that will continue. Fitting it was a bit of a nightmare - specifically opening the phone up took two people, and getting the old battery out was a herculean task due to the excessive amounts of goop holding it it).

Its as good as any other Speck case, which means its better than the cheapo ones and fits pretty well. Nice raspberry colour too.

But pretty expensive for 2 bits of plastic.

Arrived super fast, works fine in X41 Laptop - Windows XP reports between 4 and 6 hours battery life depending on what you are actually doing. It does protrude further than the old original battery but for the price, its a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great - now its updated, 13 May 2013
When I first bought this item it was OK but not great. Getting content on to the device is slow so initially loading up all your media can take a long time - it took me about 3 days.

Once loaded, streaming movies to the WIFI enabled Samsung TV downstairs was a bit hit and miss - MKV files would not stream at all and other items would sometimes drop out.

Digging on the WD forums revealed how to log on the device's embedded Twonky media server. On here I could see my TV registered as a generic device, and this seemed to be impossible to change.

This embedded Twonky media server was an old bundled version, and other people had had good results by upgrading the version of Twonky to a newer version. The catch here was that the newer version of Twonky was not free :(

While pondering what to do, fortunately WD issued a software update for the box. Once applied, you could then download and install a replacement WD-branded Media Server as a .deb file (Remember the WD My Book Live is basically a linux machine underneath). I applied the update, then installed the WD Media Server in place of the old Twonky Media Server.

What a difference! I can stream anything to the TV now, including decent 720p HD MKV files. The box can also stream an HD movie to the downstairs TV, and another one at the same time to the PS3 upstairs. There is also pause and time based searching through streaming movies - another bonus feature.
I'm now very happy with this device. (Obviously your streaming results may be different depending on your home network - my WD Mybook is connected by Ethernet to a 200Mbps mains homeplug, the downstairs TV is Wireless N and the upstairs PS3 is Wireless G.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, 19 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The item arrived four days before the due date so full marks there.

You can tell this case is a cheaper alternative to other brands, as it arrives in just some shrink-wrap, no instructions or packaging etc.
The plastic is a little thinner than others I have used on different MacBooks, but its decent enough. The finish is shiny on the inside, matt on the outside. There is a cutout for the lid logo. The rest of the cutouts all seem to be in the right place.
The lid cover snaps on pretty well. The base piece feels a tiny bit less secure but still OK. There are some pretty nasty white rubbery plastic feet on the bottom - don't think they'll last very long.
Overall it will be fine for stopping scratches etc bt maybe not much protection from dropping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not prefect but still brilliant, 8 May 2012
We bought one of these to replace on old faithful 720p Sony LCD. Didn't get it from Amazon though - it was in a package with 2 pairs of 3d Glasses from a Well Known Retailer.

Good points:
- Slim, lightweight and looks smart. The old TV weighed a ton but this is much lighter. That said, the back chassis is still metal (not all plastic like my cheap HP computer monitor).
- Easy to put the stand on - 8 screws.
- Pretty straightforward to connect stuff up - Sky HD box and PS3 via HDMI in our case. We also hooked up the Wii using a supplied SCART to Component converter, which TBH was a bit of a pig to plug in to the TV.
- Switch on and step through the set up - dead easy. Pleased to note it supports wireless N networks. WIFI is built in, no separate dongle required.
- And the picture out of the box is great! Really vibrant, clear and appealing with HD content. Its even good enough to show up quality differences in different HD programs or (when watching snooker for example) different camera feeds.
- The picture is endlessly tweakable. I read a bunch of stuff about switching off motion plus and smoothing etc but overall (call me a luddite) but I slightly prefer the picture with Motion Plus on. You can set this to a custom level and just enable a hint of smoothing.
- Blu Ray movies...wow! Really excellent picture. I set the PS3 to automatically switch to 24FPS for movies and the dreaded movie judder was finally gone! Hooray!
- SD content is upscaled well enough, and *good* SD content looks very very good.
- Sky HD only goes up to 720p. We tried comparing 720p to 1080i. 1080i was slightly preferred.
- Built in speakers are pretty good considering the TV is so thin.
- The Hub (internet) apps are OK I guess, not really what I'd use a TV for. Dabbled with similar stuff on a PS3 but we prefer the full experience on a computer.

3D:
- First off, I don't rate 3D at all, and it doesn't agree with my eyes much. Just saying.
- Put on the specs, switched them on and they pair to the TV by Bluetooth. After that we set the TV to "2D>3D" conversion mode.
- 3D was not bad on some programs, even though the colours get a bit muted. Bit of a gimmick IMO.

Bad points:
- There is a little backlight bleed on very dark content. Not enough to spoil our viewing experience but if that sort of thing bothers you, be aware.
- The online manual is not a lot of use, unless you already understand colour spaces, gamma and so on. I just fiddled a bit till it looked right to me.
- Remote control is not exactly a paragon of good design. There is a Samsung Remote iPhone app but that's pretty basic.

Untested:
- Native 3D content.
- Playing games.
- Hooking up a HDD and playing movies directly.
- Freeview tuning/viewing.
- External sound system connectivity.

All in all its a solid performing, highly functional and lovely-to-watch TV.

Update after some use:
- Negative: The stand simply screws to the TV, it isn't adjustable in any way. Unfortunately the TV does not look quite level, which isn't great! Its been easy to sort it out by slipping something small under one foot but shouldn't have to.
- Positive: The TV detects connected HDMI devices and the remote has a HDMI button that jumps you right to each HDMI input. So there is no need to hunt through the list of inputs if flipping between a couple of HDMI devices.
- Positive: The manual waffles on about Samsung's Allshare media software for streaming, but you don't need it. As long as you are running a DLNA server on your network (such as Windows Media Sharing or in my case TVMMobili on a Mac), the Samsung Allshare thing will pick it up and stream it. Because the TV supports Wireless N you can hopefully stream HD wirelessly to the TV. There is also an Ethernet port on the TV.
- Positive: I hooked up and external USB Drive (TV supports FAT/NTFS but not MacOS filesystems). The Drive holds about 100 movies in MPG, MP4, AVI and MKV formats. The TV plays every one, no problem at all. Again this is in the Allshare app.
