5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 9 Nov 2006
For any lover of poems, this is a must have collection! It has such a wide variety of some of the best poems ever written that it makes enjoyable reading no matter what your mood.

The biggest names are all there from Frost to Yeats, Kipling to Heaney, Larkin to Thomas. Some of the poems are absolutely delightful such as The Diary of a Church Mouse and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening to the more thought provoking works like What If, Still I Rise, and Warning.

There is a poem for every occasion in here, poems that have endured the test of time and will be forever classics!

New Selected Poems, 1966-1987
New Selected Poems, 1966-1987

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, 9 Nov 2006
Seamus Heaney is a poet of immense talent and has been described as the most important Irish poet since Yeats.

The earlier poems in this collection are a fascinating insight into Heaney's childhood. Poems such as Mid-Term Break and Digging illustrate this. Other poems like Death of a Naturalist and Thatcher are examples of the way Heaney plays with words, particularly adjectives, to form beautifully structured, exquisite works.

The later poems in this collection are more difficult to understand and go above my head to be honest, but I guess half the fun is trying to work out what they mean.

An enjoyable and interesting read.

Back from the Brink: The Autobiography
Back from the Brink: The Autobiography
by Paul McGrath
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Oooh Aaah!, 24 Oct 2006
Oooh Aaah Paul McGrath went the chants around Landsdowne Road, Old Trafford and Villa Park in the late '80s and early '90s when one of Ireland's truely outstanding sports personalities was at the peak of his career.

And what a brilliant career it was. Paul McGrath was a rock at the heart of United and Villa's defences and a collosus for Eire particularly in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups. And the amazing thing is that McGrath achieved all this whilst battling alcoholism and inner demons that would undoubtedly have destroyed a lesser man.

The book is a very candid account of McGrath's life, from his tough childhood in Dublin where he suffered because of his skin colour, to his rise to the summit of professional football where he often played whilst under the influence. The book gives an indication of what McGrath's mindset and mental state was like during these halcyon years, and includes some really interesting stories and insights into the some of the top personalities in English and Irish football at the time.

Legend is a word that is certainly used too lightly, but this is not the case with McGrath. He is a true legend and what's more he comes across as a very honest and likeable character. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical Unicorn Cards, 25 July 2005
I bought these cards for my girlfriend recently and she absolutely loved them. So did I. For anyone who likes the magic and mystery of unicorns, you will love this card deck. The artwork is fantastic, extremely creative, colourful and striking. The messages are really encouraging also, and would be great to read anytime as a source of inspiration. These are the best oracle card deck I have seen to date and would recommend them to anyone. Very niche!
