Tonight's the Night and I'm going to listen to the soundtrack and over again. A wonderful blend of Latino music that make you feel as though you are enjoying a warm night out in Miami and creepy Dexter themes.

5.0 out of 5 stars RBS - The most destructive thing to hit the British economy since the Luftwaffe, 4 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fascinating story of how the RBS group failed on virtually every front, investment banking, retail, international. It's a amazing that we live in a society where such a fundamentally mediocre group of people gained to do some much damage to the British economy.

What the book doesn't quite capture is how in areas such a Global Banking and Markets (GBM) so many people were exceptionally incompetent but genuinely believed themselves to be working at the new Goldman Sachs. A belief that stills seems to persist to today amongst some parts of the management of this wreck of a company.

2.0 out of 5 stars Starts very well but then....., 21 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This books starts very well by questioning the standard definition of money. It makes a very good (but by no means original) argument that money does not start with commodities such as precious metals, leading on to the evolution of paper and fiat money; quite the reverse in fact, the series of mutual obligations, credits and debits that make up the vast proportion of modern money (i.e. bank accounts and securities) came first.
This really turns most of modern economics and finance on it's head. However it an argument made more convincingly and with more detail in "Debt the first 5,000 Years" by David Graeber.
Unfortunately after a very entertaining serious of iconoclastic chapters the real problem emerges. The author desperately wants to say something about how the world should by but it just meanders off into incoherence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Developing a sense of humour is the best way to avoide going crazy, 5 April 2013

This review is from: Mental [DVD] (DVD)
Mental is both extremely funny and a life affirming story about coping with the stresses that come from life and the inside of your head. Toni Collette puts in an amazing performance as Mary Poppins on the run from an asylum.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dry And outdated, 30 Mar 2013

Operations is not the most exciting of areas but this old warhorse makes it drier than the Sahara desert . It's also incredibly dated.

Dinotopia: First Flight (Dinotopia (HarperCollins))
by James Gurney
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars A huge let down, 23 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The other three volumes by James Gurney are beautiful on so many levels, beautiful stories, beautiful creatures leading peaceful and fulfilled lives. Somehow the other books manage to captivate both old and yet. This book, with one dimensional characters and uninspiring stories seems aimed at the under 5s. Many of the characters look like things you would find in a McDonald happy meal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Superb Volume in the Adventures of the Denisons, 23 Mar 2013
Lives up to the first two volumes. Another beautifully illustrated journey through the ideal home for those of us who are still schoolboys at heart; dreaming of dinosaurs and lost civilizations.

Buddhism Plain and Simple (Arkana)
Buddhism Plain and Simple (Arkana)
by Steve Hagen
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Expect to have you eyes opened, 17 Mar 2013
I typically look at reviews by reading the reviews with the highest and lowest ratings. The lowest rated reviews all have some points. This is not a comprehensive description of Buddhism in all it many forms and cultural accretions. It is also not a comprehensive and detailed guide to changing your life and solving all your problems. It also uses very western analogies and examples to appeal to the western readers.

What is is however is a very simple explanation of how to start opening your eyes and start looking at yourself in a different way. Some points are repetitive, I couldn't identify the picture on page 28 for weeks but if you open you mind and really think about each point, a change does start in your thinking and perception of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching and insightful memoir of dealing with Bi-Polar disorder, 25 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A moving insight into the havoc that mental illness can have a sufferer's life and the lives of those around them. On a more positive note it does show that sufferers from many forms of mental disorder do have choices, they can try to understand the drivers of their behaviour and work with professionals to help deal with the resulting problems.
It also accurately shows the positive effects in terms of energy and creatively that can go along with Bi-Polar disorder.

Really should be read by everyone who has a loved one with Bi-Polar disorder.
