Great film. Decided to purchase the DVD having not seen this film in a while. Absolutely superb. Nolte and Streisand at their very best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful, 2 Feb. 2012

I've been a science fiction fan since I was a kid and have seen some wonderful films of the genre, however this isnt one of them.

The "grotesque" Selenites are nothing of the sort, theyre laughable and they must be one of the worst examples of Harryhausen I've seen. They remind me of something that you would see in a primary school play.

It has the feel not surprisingly of the HG Wells Time Machine film that was made in the 1960's but isnt anywhere near as good; its awful. No problem with the quality of the DVD by the way which was spot on. The saving grace is that I paid less than a fiver to watch this rubbish.

Save your money and buy Forbidden Planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 9 Oct. 2011
I received a copy of Gary's book and my immediate impression was that it is a very high quality publication, you get a lot for your money.

Gary's story itself is brilliantly told and never mundane. As a Sunderland supporter I could of course relate to many of the stories that Gary tells, some good memories and of course there are always the not so good ones with SAFC! I shuddered again remembering Stamford Bridge in 1985! There are personal pictures of Gary as a kid with his family, he's the double of his Dad and more towards the end of the book with his own children, wife and extended family. It adds a personal touch to the contents. Gary's anti racism work is highlighted together with the impact it has had on terrace chanting. We all remember the dark old days of some of the vitriol that used to extend from the terraces, thankfully now virtually eliminated.

All in all a great read, a book that you can pick up, read a few pages, reminisce, pick it up again and then eagerly read more. Gary is an SAFC legend, a top bloke and I hope the book is a big success for him.

Best of luck Gary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Capturing The Spirit Of A Club, 12 Feb. 2010
I started reading this book and couldnt put it down. Superbly written by Hardy with some illuminating and gripping background stories from both the players and 3 of our supporters. Immaculately researched this has to be a must for all football fans never mind Sunderland supporters.

The curious thing here is that it took someone 36 years to write a book about perhaps the most famous FA Cup Final of all time. Why did we wait so long?

I'm not surprised in the least that this book has been critically acclaimed.

Brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellously written, a must for any fan of Sunderland & Millwall, 17 Nov. 2008
What a wonderful book! It captures perfectly not only the highs lows and culture of Sunderland AFC but also 1960's football as Charlie Hurley's rags to riches tale is told eloquently and with passion by author Mark Metcalfe. Interwoven with wider sporting stories of the time its easy too see why this is fast becoming a best seller. If youre a fan of Sunderland AFC or Millwall or if youre just in the mood for a great football tale then this book is for you. I didnt realise in the wider world of football just how highly Sunderland's Player Of The Century was regarded and makes me sad that I never saw the man in action, wearing the famous red and white stripes. Brilliant, buy it!
