I was tempted to say that there's nothing good about this book but, on reflection, it is nice and short. Also, isn't it about time you updated your profile pick? [...]

1.0 out of 5 stars Trying to flog a dead horse, 25 Jun. 2013
The person who wrote this book is attempting to sell you a REVIEW of another person's diet book. Amazon should clamp down on this sort of thing. It is not the book itself.

1.0 out of 5 stars A review of a review., 25 Jun. 2013
The person who wrote this book is attempting to sell you a SIX PAGE(!) REVIEW(!) of another person's book for two quid. The title explains it is a review but at first glance it might look like you're getting the Crossfire novel itself.

Another book pushing lies about evolution by a hack with absolutely no knowledge of the subject. Avoid at all costs.

A quick look at the free kindle extract and the author's blog will tell you the only truth he's stumbled upon is that any moron can publish their own book in this digital era. But don't take my word for it, have a look for yourself. The truth is out there, but it's not in this pitiful tome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Biog, 26 Sept. 2012
I actually picked up a copy of this when I was visiting Australia. As well as providing a fascinating insight into the man himself and giving some idea of just how great a batsman he must have been it also gives an indication as to his special place in the history of his nation. He is perhaps still the greatest hero that country has ever produced and maybe that will never change. It is also very well written and researched. Highly recommended and it provides an interesting counterpoint to Duncan Hmailton's recent book on Harold Larwood.

A fantastic selection of proper deep, vocal house music from back in the day. Both mixes are excellent and if you're already a fan of Sneak you'll know exactly what to expect in terms of quality. Surprisingly though, the Princess Julia mix just pips Sneak's selection for me. If you're a fan of this music from this era then you won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gets a bit tedious in the end, 14 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: White Teeth (Paperback)
I think the people giving this one star are very harsh. There are some dreadful books out there and this isn't dreadful by any stretch of the imagination. It's a funny book and, despite its ambitious scope, a pretty readable one at that. I just found it a bit pointless in the end though. The characters, with the exception of Irie, are just too one-dimensional for me and there's barely anything likeable about any of them either. Perhaps you could argue this reflects reality but it just made me stop caring about the book about 150 pages before the end. Therein lies another problem - it's just too long to keep you interested once it becomes obvious that the novel isn't really going anywhere. For a first novel it's a great effort and there is much to recommend about it (the aforementioned ambition and the humour) but it never quite manages to live up to the hype. It took me about 10 years to get around to reading it and I don't really feel like I was missing out on that much.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nee Mention of Percy Sledge, 2 April 2012
If you're looking for a detailed look at the life and work of the soul legend then it's probably best to look elsewhere. However, if you're after a fascinating insight into the turbulent fortunes of the Northern Alliance outfit known as Percy Main then you're probably still best off looking elsewhere. Contact the writer via his blog for copies. His garage is full of them.
