Another great story from Lucy Cousins; my granddaughter loves these stories. Lovely illustrations and gentle story lines make this a perfect read.

5.0 out of 5 stars long-awaited DVD..., 21 July 2013

Like the other reviewers, I watched the original TV series in the 80's when I was in my late 20's... and it had a profound impact on me. At the time, the idea of Mark and Charity meeting on Valentine's Day in 2000 seemed a very long way ahead, and somehow I hoped that the BBC would repeat the series in this year ~ in fact I wrote to them suggesting it! I thought that Bill Nighy was perfectly "aged" for the final shots, considering we now know how he actually looked in 2000! Many lines stayed with me, including the line Mark issued to Charity after he had met Tessa Pascoe: "I don't have to struggle with her". The series shows how destructible and selfish the love affair between Mark and Charity is, and of course the effect this has on Charity's children in particular, but yet it endures above all others. The drama shows its age a little and appears somewhat dated, most notably in fashion trends, but this in no way detracts from the appeal. Some promising actors had cameo roles, including Hermione Norris and Peter Wingfield. Many scenes were beautifully filmed, and the relationships between characters were well developed. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who watched ~ or missed ~ the original showing on TV. It has stood the test of time and as many have said, effectively launched Bill Nighy as an actor. I don't suppose there is any chance of a sequel...?!
