Frustrated with internet setup, 10 Feb 2013
Is any one having the same problem I am accessing the internet? I've spent hours trying to get this recorder to do just that and keep getting the message "Cannot connect. Please try again later or confirm network connections and settings". This product is so frustrating!
I have a home network with a PC, internet enabled TV (Pansaonic TXP50GT30B), internet enabled cinema AV receiver (Denon AVR2113) and internet enabled music streamer (Denon DNP720AE). The TV, receiver and music streamer all access the internet via my network without any problem whatsoever. The DMR-BWT720EB will access the media held on my PC via my network but just won't go out onto the internet.
In the "easy setup" menu option the test of the lan cable, ip address, gateway and connection tests all give a pass. In the "network" menu option there is a "ip address/menu settings" option. Doing a connection test from here gives an "OK" result. All the tests I have tried give a pass everytime!
I've tried both wired and wireless connections. Switching to a wireless connection I enter the encryption give and the subsequent connection test gives a pass. However when I press the internet button I get the ususal cannot connect message.
I have compared all the settings (gateway, primary dns, secondary dns etc) with my PC and TV and all looks ok. I've checked for updates and the DMR-BWT720EB is up-to-date. There an no IP address duplications on my network.
If I go onto my virgin media router I see that the DMR-BWT720EB is connected to it. I have also tried switching off all my other internet equipment and connecting a cable straight to my router (in case there is a conflict on my network) but again I get the same result.
Just the once I managed to connect to the internet and watched an hour long BBC iPlayer programme. The next day however I had the same connection problems. I can't say how I got to it to work that one time as I was trying various things for over an hour.
I'm rather put off by the reviews on amazon.com for the Panasonic DMP-BDT210 where lots of people are getting connection issues. I've tried the fix suggested by a reviewer of the DMP-BDT210 but that didn't work.
Any helpful advice appreciated.
