4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Effort From Cradle Of Filth, 18 Feb. 2004
This review is from: Damnation & A Day (Audio CD)
This is Cradle Of Filth's major label debut, and it is a LOT better than expected. I know quite a few people slated this for not having the atmosphere of albums like "Dusk...And Her Embrace" or not being as fast and heavy as "Principal Of Evil Made Flesh". I really like this album though, and no, i am not a new fan of Cradle Of Filth i have got everything they have done and have been listening to them since 1994.
The Band: Dani's vocals are on top form. Plenty of shrieks and screams which can suddenly change to a dark whisper. Like him or loathe him, he is extremely talented. Paul's guitars are again on top form, the riffs coming heavy and fast, as well as the lighter song(s) (I.E. Serpent's Tongue). Dave Pybus is an extremely talented bassist, which is why it is a shame that his basslines don't always shine through. Adrian Erlandsson is the second best drummer (losing out to Trym from Emperor) which is why i was really glad that the drums have a nice full sound, and can be heard properly now, which is what the older albums lacked. Martin is also a great keyboard player, and this can be heard. Sarah Jezebel Deva is also on top form providing the beautiful backing vocals.
On top of all that they have now included a full orchestra, making their instrumentals even better.
So Ignore all the haters and give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised. Just don't expect another "Dusk.." or "Principal Of Evil.." clone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Live Album, 18 Feb. 2004
This review is from: Live Frogs Set 1 (Audio CD)
Firstly can i just start off by saying that those expecting a Primus clone may be dissapointed. This is very different from the manic slap n' slash style of Primus.
This IS very good though. The covers of Thela Hun Ginjeet and Shine On You Crazy Diamond are amazing too. All the musicians are extremely talented. Obviously everyone recognises the genius that is Les Claypool but i think the others are just as good, especially Eenor, who is the guitarist. Some of his parts are amazing.
So if you are going to buy this (and i recomend it) then keep an open mind when listening to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Decent Friday The 13th Movie, 23 Dec. 2003
I saw this a few years ago and the other week i saw it on sale on DVD and couldn't resist.
The Story : The FBI set up an ambush in an attempt to finally kill Jason Voorhees. After his dismembered body is sent for an autopsy a series of "Jason Style" murders start to happen. Enter Bounty Hunter 'Creighton Duke'. He is the only one who knows how to stop Jason forever (maybe he could does us a favour and go after Freddy next!).
A lot of people didn't like the fact that the true Jason only appears for about 15 minutes in this film (he has the abillity to switch bodies). I think this idea was good as it gave it a bit of a different feel to it, not just another generic slasher.
The Blood and Gore: The film is filled with the red stuff. The UK DVD is the full uncut version, unlike the Region 1, R - Rated American Version. The sex scene is longer and more graphic and all of the death scenes have been extended in some way (check out the girl in the text - the blood flows freely!)
The DVD: This contains the Fullscreen (4:3) version of the film which isn't too bad, but a widescreen version would have been better.
The Extras: There are only 2 extras: Jason Goes To Hell USA Theatrical trailer which is o.k. but nothing special, and then "Slash and Burn" which is a brief history of the Friday The 13th series.
All In All : Forthe price you really cannot beat this DVD, perfect horror at a decent price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brutal, Aggressive Death Metal, 29 Nov. 2003
This review is from: Tomb Of The Mutilated (Audio CD)
For me Cannibal Corpse have always been at the forefront of the death metal scene. Having their first 3 albums banned in Germany and their concerts banned nearly everywhere, they are no strangers to controversy and certaily don't hold back (lyrically and musically).
Their lyrics are very VERY extreme and the tracklisting is an indication of what to expect. This is not for the weak minded or easily offended. The lyrics are delivered with the subtlety of a sledgehammer by the master Chris Barnes, who is the best death metal vocalist. This album also see's the music get a lot more technichal, and the production is very good as well.
If you can get your hands on this version then do as it contains the track "I Cum Blood" live.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Film, 21 Oct. 2003
I think this film is really good, the directors could of easily made another rehash of The Blair Witch Project but instead decided to try a different angle.
The Plot : 4 people (Steven, Trysten, Kim and Erica) are led by a tour guide (Jeff) on a Blair Witch Hunt. After partying till late they wake up and find their equiptment trashed and their belongings in shreds. They then try to descover what happened. One of the best features of this film is the soundtrack featuring songs by Poe, Marilyn Manson, Nickleback, Godhead and At The Drive In.
DVD Special Features :-
The Secrets Of Esrever (Reverse) - After watching the film you will see a message and a few video clips, follow this, take down the letters and it points out ghostly goings on within the film.
Directors Commentary - Very good and informative, not just about the film but production etc as well.
2 "Documantaries" - One examines the man being put on trial (Jeff) and how the cas was being investigated and interviews. The other is about the 7 children that were murdered.
Trailers (2) - A teaser trailer and a theatrical trailer.
Live Music Video - Godhead performing "The Reckoning" live at the Blair Witch Hunt.
Biographies - Biographis of stars, cast and crew etc.
Interviews - Interviews with 4 of the stars, short and sweet and quite informative.
Audio and Visual : The audio is fantastic and every ghostly voice sounds amazing, while the film is presented in the widescreen format.
All In All : A good solid film backed up by some amazing special features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film, 19 Oct. 2003
This review is from: Halloween II [DVD] (DVD)
This is the best Halloween sequal, combining horror and suspense with blood and gore.
The film continues on from the first, after Dr Loomis has shot and believed to have kiled Michael Myers. Michael roams around Haddonfield trying to find his sister (Laurie Strode), and kills various charachters along the way. He finally ends up at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital where the doctors and nurses meet a nasty fate.
The DVD is ok, but could have been better. the picture and sound are ok but nothing special. The only extras are Commentary and Biographies.

Reinventing Hell - The Best of Pantera [CD + DVD]
Reinventing Hell - The Best of Pantera [CD + DVD]
Price: £5.68

4.0 out of 5 stars Good But A Few Rare Tracks Would Have Been Nice, 30 Sept. 2003
Since Panteras last album (Reinventing The Steel) the boys have had kind of a difficult time what with all their side projects (including the awesome Superjoint Ritual). The news that Pantera split up was released last month and then the news of this best of album came a few days later. The only thing with this is that all of these tracks are the more well know ones (Cowboys From Hell, I'm Broken, F**king Hostile, Cemetary Gates, 5 Minutes Alone etc etc). A few rareities would have been nice. The tracks that are on here are usual Pantera standard, and if your reading this then you either know / love them or are curious about them.
The bonus DVD is quite goood but again you'd be better buying Pantera - 3 Vulgar Videos From Hell DVD.
All in all - either for hardcore fans or starters.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Funniest Films Ever., 2 Sept. 2003
This is basically an extended version of the tv show, but with much more gross stunts and lots of nudity and swearing (which is all uncensored). Featuring some crazy stunts like :- Ryan Dunn sticking a toy car up his butt, Steve-O getting a tatoo in a very fast moving vehicle (driven by Henry Rollins) and Johnny, Bam, Ryan and Brandon wrecking golf carts. As usual poor old Phil and April Margera (Bam's parents) are on the recieving end of many a joke (the wake up call is one). Also featured is Dave England taking a "number 2" in a hardware store toilets! This is definately not one for the easilly offended or the faint hearted!
Also included on the VHS version is 27 minutes of out - takes, deleted scenes and a music video (Andrew W.K - We Want Fun). Definately a worthy buy for those who can stomach it.
There's not really much more to say about this : you either love it or hate it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Decent, Bloody, Action Film, 16 Aug. 2003
This is the Superbit DVD of Desperado, meaning that there is better sound and the picture quality is best i've seen. However there are no extras as disk space has been used up by the above features.
Now for the plot : The mexican (played superbly by Antonio Banderas) is a dark and mysterious drifter with a score to settle. Bucho is responsible for the death of his lover and shooting his hand (meaning he can't work as a Mariáchi anymore). It's not really much of a plot but the explosions and gunfights really shine through on the superbit DVD.
The acting isn't really oscar winning but it goes bu unnoticed by most, as this is not meant to be a serious drama piece, but a nice little action thriller. Packed with lots of bloody violence, strong language and a strangely shot sex scene this film is definately one to watch.
Also Recomended : El Mariachi (this is a remake with a bigger budget basically) and From Dusk 'Till Dawn.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Album, 15 Aug. 2003
firstly, let me start of by saying that this is not Primus's best album. Their best album is easily "Sailing The Seas Of Cheese", but it is definately not their worst (that goes to "The Brown Album"). This album is very different from previous efforts but is just as good. You can't beat Les Claypool's bass banjo with his droning voice on "De Anza Jig" or the amazing slap n slash bass, almost psychadelic guitars and brilliant drumming on "Wynonas Big Brown Beaver" or "Proffesor Nutbutters House Of Treats". This album also contains a few slower songs ("On The Tweak Again"). This is not Primus's most accesible album and not good to get if your just getting into primus but for anyone who has heard their previous efforts then you know what your in for. It is also good to keep an open mind when listening to this as some may be put of by Les's extremely wierd and nasally voice.
All in all this is a brilliant album and a worthy buy.
