Pleasant but can't beat the first xxx, 11 Jan. 2006
Well, some of the effects are very good and some are very obviously "computer-y" and you lose some of the believability. The train stunts at the end in particular. They try to maintain continuity between the first and the second xxx but things like Gibbons scarred face being different, and so forth and mentioning Xander Cage in Bora Bora (where he went at end of the first xxx ended) wasn't quite enough to convince me it was following on. It just didn't quite do it for me, have seen Samuel L Jackson do far better roles and although Ice Cube/T whatever his name is does a good job with lots of attitude creating a loveable rogue, triple x IS Vin Diesel for me.
The gadgets man (same as first one) provides some light relief to stop the story line dragging from time to time, but the new detective to save the day is a bit too "american college boy wonder-hero-good-guy" and loses some credibility for what could have been a meatier role. If you love American fast cars, you will probably like this film a whole lot more...
