Flight of Frumious Banderstatch
Flight of Frumious Banderstatch
Offered by HANG LOOSE Records
Price: £8.21

4.0 out of 5 stars but it is mostly a bit better than that, 2 Sept. 2014
Frumious Bandersnatch was a psychedelic rock band in San Francisco in the late 1960s, achieving little commercial success. In 2008, David Denny, Jack King, Ross Valory, Jimmy Warner & Bobby Winkleman reunited to issue "The Flight of the Frumious Bandersnatch". The music is mostly laid-back rock, with some hints of 60s psychedelia. Some might describe it as pop rock, but it is mostly a bit better than that. I can best try to describe the sound by suggesting you imagine a cross between Bread and Simon & Garfunkel, with occasional hints of Dylan or Journey (of which Ross Valory was a founder member.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Dan Stuart, once lead singer with Green On Red ..., 25 Aug. 2014
This review is from: Love of the Amateur (Audio CD)
Dan Stuart, once lead singer with Green On Red, joined with musician/producer JD Foster and two Italian musicians, Antonio Gramentieri & Diego Sapignoli to form The Slummers, of which "Love of the amateur" is the only album released to date. In musical style, it is a bit of a mixed bag, some up-tempo rock songs reminiscent of Green On Red, sometimes resembling 1960s hippy era psychedelia, and some slow laid-back rock ballads. No dud songs in my opinion, but the mixture won't be to everyone's taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars conveyed brilliantly by Dan Stuart, 25 Aug. 2014
A lesson for men - in matters of the heart you should never trust a woman. They say one thing, but mean somehing else, and can cause you years of despair and pain. That, basically is the theme of this album, conveyed brilliantly by Dan Stuart. Mostly rock ballads, he explores what went wrong in a relationship with a cheating woman. Personal favourite track is the somewhat Dylanesque "Gonna Change" . It won't suit everyone, especially those who prefer loud, up-tempo rock, but of its kind, it is brilliant - Dan Stuart almost back to the best of Green On Red. (And apologies to the woman somewhere who can be trusted - wish I had met you.)

Rare Earth - Made In Switzerland(Live)
Rare Earth - Made In Switzerland(Live)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Live CD, 20 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whilst some unauthorised copies may exist, "Made In Switzerland" was produced by founder member Gilbert Bridges and officially released. It consists of recordings from a 1989 concert in Switzerland. Sadly neglected in U.K., the band performs a fine set of largely blues influenced rock with some longer tracks venturing to the fringes of prog rock. Although there are also influences from soul/Tamla, it would be very wrong to describe them just as a soul band (as I have seen in some reviews.) . Best tracks in my opinion are Big Brother, Born to Wander, I'm Losing You, Get Ready, Celebrate, plus a fine bluesy cover of Tobacco Road. An excellent CD - nearly as good as their "In Concert" album, as original member Pete Rivera had left the band by 1989, but definitely worth a listen if you like bluesy rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power rock - a neglected gem., 15 Mar. 2014

Hard to understand why she was not recognised as one of the all time great female rock singers - . Hard, driving rock, powerful voice, not a dud track on the CD, but sadly neglected by "rock" radio. .

3.0 out of 5 stars Good - but not their best, 21 Feb. 2014

Although I like this CD and there are no "dud" tracks, I feel it lacks the originality & class of their earlier material. So - worth a listen, but don't expect anything as memorable as "Question", "Nights in white satin" and many of their other somgs from the 1960s and early 1970s.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tommy James - in fine voice, 12 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Tommy James was one of the better performers on the "rock" side of 1960s pop, who occasionally ventured towards psychedelic music. This live performance includes versions of his better known pop hits, including my own favourites, Crimson & Clover and Mony, Mony - in my opinion, some of the live versions here are even better than the original pop singles, assisted by a fine band. Recommended for anyone who likes pop-rock music from that era.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kerry Livgren outside Kansas, 4 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Decade (Audio CD)
Decade consists of 2 CD's featuring music from Kerry Livgren's first ten years working outside Kansas. CD 1 contains the full "Seeds of Change" album, plus 3 tracks from "Prime Mover" and 4 instrumental tracks from "One of several possible" musiks. Seeds of Change is notable in that most of the tracks feature guest lead singers, notably Ronnie James Dio on 2 fine tracks, "To live for the king" & "Mask of the great deceiver" . CD 2 contains all the tracks from the "Time Line" album, plus 4 tracks from "Art of the state" by Kerry with AD, one track from "Reconstructions", plus 2 tracks that had not been previously released when Decade was released. Most tracks on CD feature lead vocals by Warren Ham or Michael Gleason. All tracks listenable, some better than others, but none quite as outstanding as, for example Kansas tracks such as Carry on wayward son, or Dust in the wind.

3.0 out of 5 stars An instrumental CD, 4 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Imagine Kansas type songs without words, and you have One of Several Possible Musiks - an album consisting of 10 instrumental tracks by Kerry Livgren, during a break from his time in Kansas. Most tracks are listenable, but none are strong enough to produce a hit single, and some listeners may find it preferable to play 2 or 3 tracks at a time rather than play the full CD in one session. My personal favourite is possibly "Colonnade Gardens".
