Will Bertie ever get to be 7 ??? I have enjoyed all the books so far and this one didn't disappoint. I do get a bit frusrated with Stuart and wiah he'd just stand up to Irene and let Bertie be a little boy. That said all the characters are great and the author engages you form page one.
I love this series. I have been the head of a rural school and know the highs and lows of the job. I now livein Yorkshire and have friends who live in a village near to where this is set .... I keep looking at people in shops and wondering if they are from the book.
Looking forward to the next episode ... which has just come through the post !!!
Like many other reviewers I had high hopes for this book having read Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I wasn't disappointed. The story had a good pace and demonstrated how someone suffering with depression tries to cope and hide it from those closest to them. Yes in parts it was mundane - but most of our lives are so the characters and events were realistic. It would be difficult to achieve the same impact as Curious Incident but in Spot of Bother Mark Haddon provides us with a good story told with humour and affection. I look forward to his next offering.
