The Innocents
The Innocents
Price: £1.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit ponderous, 21 Dec. 2012

This review is from: The Innocents (Kindle Edition)
Had high expectations for this based on reviews but felt it a bit slow to get going and ultimately didn't live up to expectations. All the main characters will very unlikeable and quite annoying and I very easily guessed the ending and was hoping for one final twist that would make getting it through it worthwhile. Sadly disappointing.

Snatched (The Will Trent Series Book 3)
Price: £0.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, 9 Aug. 2012
Love Karin Slaughter's work, especially the Will Trent books but found myself strangely unmoved by this. It started well but after a while felt a bit investigation-by-numbers with no real sense of intrigue or pace. Understanding that short stories are very different to full length works of fiction but nonetheless disappointed. Looking forward to Criminal though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Started brilliantly, but ultimately disappointing, 22 July 2012
This review is from: Gone Girl (Hardcover)
Was completely gripped by the first part of this book (a masterclass in reader manipulation) but the second half almost undid all the great work of the first. Can't say I can identify the twist that everyone seems to be talking about, as I felt the story just ran out of steam towards the end and just went on and on. Worth a read but ultimately disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 22 May 2012
This review is from: Lone Wolf (Kindle Edition)
Another fantastic Picoult title. A story about family ties and relationships seen through the eyes of a man obsessed with wolves. The wolves parts were absolutely fascinating and will make me think again next time I pass a wolf enclosure at the zoo. Vintage Picoult, brilliant

4.0 out of 5 stars Always reliable, 22 May 2012
This review is from: The Making of Us (Kindle Edition)
Have read a few of her books and this is another great read from the always reliable Jewell, and a story that is a step above your average chicklit. The moves from past to present add depth and intrigue and the characters are exremely likeable. Another winner from Lisa Jewell and looking forward to the next

The Coroner (Coroner Jenny Cooper Series)

4.0 out of 5 stars A top read, 17 May 2012

Loved the story and the intrigue surrounding the deaths of the children in the correctional facility although there were some unexplained questions at the end for me. Also found that there was possibly too much of Jenny's personal life and troubles in the story, particularly those related to her son - however the book has the makings of a good series and I look forward to reading this author again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, 17 May 2012
This review is from: The Playdate (Paperback)
This was an interesting change from the usual chicklit story and reminded me a little of Jody Picoult in style. Interesting characters, lots of mystery and suspense and I enjoyed the way the author constantly played with our opinions of the characters. Unfortunately I did guess the twist re Rae which slightly ruined the remainder of the story for me, but was an enjoyable book overall and I will read more from this author.

First time I have read a book by this author but enjoyed this so much I will go back and look for others. Well written and a tightly woven plot that kept me turning the pages at a fast rate. Very impressive

3.0 out of 5 stars Started well, 2 May 2012

This started extremely well, great characters and premise and account of a small town rocked by a series of unexplained deaths. Really enjoyed the balance of local cop and FBI detective along with the seperate story of Henry Goll the obituary columnist. Sadly it was all too easy to guess who the killer was, and the motivation for his crimes was somewhat unexplained. Would read more by this author.
