Melancholy, poetic, a first-class singer-songwriter. Some of these songs are so beautiful as to leave one speechless. So sad that he failed to win much recognition at the time.

Depending on how long they last, these should save money; the halogen equivalents they're designed to replace never seemed to last long and were far from energy efficient. Also, they often used to blow the circuit in my house whenever a bulb blew. Given the fashion for GU10 spots which has seem some houses with large numbers of them, these LED equivalents seem an ideal replacement. They're the same size and cast a pleasing warm light.

Came with Halogen bulb which promptly blew in spectacular fashion (and blew the fuse in the lighting circuit too!). Found a replacement bulb and it's fine. Looks good but fixing arrangement on bracket without any slots or adjustment means that it doesn't fit quite flush with ceiling which spoils the look a bit. Have now ordered some GU10 LED (equivalent to 50 w halogen) bulbs, so hopefully no more blown fuses (and lower running costs too).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very hard to find, 30 Oct 2013

Finding this classic fragrance anywhere in the uk at a reasonable price (or indeed finding it at all) is now very difficult. This is hard to understand as, as far as I know Givenchy still make it and you can find it in numerous outlets in France (and not just classy ones in Paris or Nice either). It's always been my wife's favourite fragrance and she's disappointed that it's become so elusive and pricey (and so am I!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfy but quite lightweight, 30 Oct 2013

It would be useful if more info. could be given in the ad. as to the thickness and seasonal suitability of socks advertised. I have a couple of other pairs of Brasher socks (not sure what they were called) but they are much thicker and heavier duty than these, so I was a little disappointed to discover that these were less than half as thick and fleecy than my old pairs, especially as we're coming into winter. Having said that, I can't fault their comfort for mild autumn walks (and I suspect they will be fine for summer walking too). On the other hand come snow and sub-zero temperatures, I will be returning to my old ones.

Well made and realistic looking toys. Grandson really enjoyed role-play using this. Much better than most of the plastic on offer for kids these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine performances, 14 Sep 2013

By contrast with the Guest/Academy of St Martin's/Marriner/St John's recordings of Purcell dating from the Sixties and Seventies,(fine though these were in their way and for their time) these are performances that adopt a more authentic approach in the light of recent scholarship in relation to performance style and instrumentation. The Purcell anthems are generally well known and date from across the composer's career and are performed by choir, 'in-house' band and soloists with fine musicianship and sympathetic style. The inclusion of two contrasting works by Purcell's mentor and predecessor Pelham Humphrey is well chosen; he was clearly a fine composer in his own right and might well have ranked among the greats had he lived longer. Early music purists may possibly find things to quibble about, but these are performances of considerable quality and conviction, highly enjoyable, and, at times very moving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine characterful performances, 14 Sep 2013

Committed singing from an excellent choir on fine form. Organ deployed very effectively too. If you want to hear Wesley's church music sung with unrestrained conviction, this is for you. If you like a, 'polite', mannered and 'tasteful' approach, avoid it because these are robust full-blooded performances leavened with fine musicianship. Good 'sleeve notes' too.
