Occupants
Occupants
by Henry Rollins
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £22.73

5.0 out of 5 stars A thought provoking must, 2 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Occupants (Hardcover)
This is essentially a book of pictures taken by Henry Rollins on his extensive travels around the world, with his unique observations of the images and why he captured them. It is filled with images of the world surrounding us that thankfully most of us will never experience, from children scavenging on rubbish tips, and men sorting and recycling used hypodermic needles in Bangladesh, to I.R.A graffiti in Northern Ireland, and pink Maseratis in Saudi Arabia, and the New Orleans hurricane survivors. This is a very sobering and thought provoking book that I cannot recommend highly enough. It doesn't make for comfortable reading at times, but I truly believe if everybody was to read this book, it may not make the world a better place but there would be a lot more understanding. Buy a copy, and make sure all your friends read it as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bag of ol' scrote, 28 April 2013
This review is from: The Informers [DVD] (2008) (DVD)
This is one of the dreariest films I've ever had the misfortune to watch. While other reviewers talk of great plot lines and dark tales, personally I've been more entertained by staring at drying paint, it really is that bad!! NOTHING HAPPENS!! It goes to show that even with good actors (Bassinger, Ryder, Rourke) you can still make a truly awful film. The only possible reason to buy this film is for the totally gratuitous Amber Heard nude scenes of which there are lots. Even a second hand DVD at a couple of quid is waste of money.

Smells Like Bleach: A Punk Tribute To Nirvana
Smells Like Bleach: A Punk Tribute To Nirvana

Price: £13.95

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw Nirvana, 17 April 2013

If you think that Nirvana's Nevermind was their best album then you probably won't like this. If however you think Nevermind, although having some tremendous songs was a little too silky smooth, a touch over produced, and prefer the rawness and aggression of Bleach (my own personal favourite Nirvana album), then this is well worth a listen and a place in your music collection.

London Boulevard [DVD]
London Boulevard [DVD]

Price: £1.78

3.0 out of 5 stars Seen worse, seen better, 15 Mar. 2013

This review is from: London Boulevard [DVD] (DVD)
Despite probably Kiera Knightley's most wooden performance, and Colin Farrell's dodgy London accent the story line to this film is half decent. It's a bit of a slow burner but once it gets going there is some lovely gangster humour and violence. It's nowhere near the same league as Love Honour and Obey, Face, Snatch or Lock Stock, but if you buy a used copy for a couple of quid it's worth a watch

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, averagely executed, 9 Mar. 2013
This review is from: Chernobyl Diaries [DVD] (DVD)
The idea of mutants surviving in the ruins of Chernobyl that attack the stereo typical American gap year tourists, would appear to be a great basis for a unique horror movie. However somewhere along the line the they failed to make this movie everything it could've been, the endless chase scenes in darkened corridors tend to get a bit monotonous, and the lack of a clear view of the mutants is frustrating (almost Blair Witch Project like at times). It is worth a watch but it could've been so so much better.

This is a decent sized log basket, that is easily capable of holding 10 or more average sized logs. It's a well made traditional wicker log basket and it's great value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud Punk Blues, 23 Nov. 2012

This review is from: Noise And Revolution (Audio CD)
The second album from The Bermondsey Joyriders, and it's another journey in to their unique style of "Punk Blues".
Faultless guitar and true punk vocals from Gary "Guitar" Lammin (Cock Sparrer), and throbbing bass from the towering Martin Stacey (Chelsea). The album consists of some interesting social comments in "Society Is Rapidly Changing" and "Proper English" and there's classic rock numbers in the form of "Rock Star" and "1977".
Buy this and also buy their first album, but most importantly get out and see them live!!

Self Medication
Self Medication

5.0 out of 5 stars Ska, Reggae, and Rocky Steady, by one of the coolest bands ever, 23 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Self Medication (Audio CD)
This album is little more reggae orientated than some of The Slackers other albums, but there are still a couple of ska classics in Every day Is Sunday, and Happy Song, and some rocksteady in Don't Have To, and Sing Your Song. The Slackers call their music Jamaican Rock'n'Roll and that sums their style up perfectly, and this is another great album from possibly just about the coolest band on the planet. Put this on your stereo, relax and smile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short, Sharp Hardcore, 12 Sept. 2012
This review is from: The Alligators (Audio CD)
12 tracks in 10 minutes 25 seconds. This album is only for hardcore punk purists, but if you're a fan of Agnostic Front and the like you may well find room for this in your music collection. With only 3 tracks longer than a minute each, the album is a short sharp shock of thrashy fast guitar riffs and aggresive vocals that really make a statement, all be it a rather short one!!

As with so many punk / rock bands the early albums are the best, before they learn to play too well and the record company employs a slick producer, this album is no exception. Raw, thrashy and uncomplicated Rancid at their punk best, not as Ska influenced as some their later stuff, but there's definitely an air of Operation Ivy about a lot the tracks. An absolute must for all Rancid, Operation Ivy, Punk,or Ska-punk fans
