5.0 out of 5 stars Craig's best score yet?, 25 April 2015
Too early to tell just yet, but I have a feeling that this is the best score Craig has done so far. It has the romantic elements that made Love Actually & Romeo & Juliet so well received but with a more developed emotional maturity. Addictive stuff & just lovely overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photography: erotic, 1 Jan. 2015

Beautiful photography: erotic, playful and occasionally profound. Rheims is a master of the nude and I think this is her best book.

Surprisingly smart well-crafted pop, with very shiny production values. Didn't expect to like this, but it's pretty darn good.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... you should know their influences are only the very best: The Beatles, 1 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Showroom Of Compassion (Audio CD)
If you don't know Cake (and if you are UK based you may well not) you should know their influences are only the very best: The Beatles, Talking Heads, Nirvana, Beck... yup, it's all in here mashed up and ready to serve.
The combination of catchy grooves & humour is really hard to resist. So, don't!

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive perfection..., 3 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Pilgrimage (Audio CD)
One of the very few records that if I play it once I play the whole thing at least one time more. It just kind of hypnotises you with its sheer lyricism.
Ans as the other reviewers have said, all the 'ALL STAR' players are on their very best form & its all matched with a perfect recording too, which is cherry on the cake.
When people wonder what jazz exactly is, let them hear this beautiful creation.

5.0 out of 5 stars And like them, you will soon be hearing this release ..., 16 Oct. 2014
This review is from: It's Nearly Tomorrow (Audio CD)
Loving this, after a very long wait since 'As If To Nothing'.
As one reviewer has already stated, this seems even more 'of a piece' somehow than Armstrong's last two 'solo' albums. A bit more organic & a little less electronic maybe.
And like them, you will soon be hearing this release in the background of X-Factor / Top Gear / etc etc.... But it really does deserve your undivided concentration as it has a lovely balance listened to as a whole album.
All the guest vocalists do great jobs, and fans of the Glasgow music scene will be particularly happy to hear Paul Buchanan, James Grant & Jerry Burns all making heartfelt contributions.
All in all, probably my favourite record of 2014 so far.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gary Katz, we need you!!, 7 April 2013
This review is from: Sunken Condos (Audio CD)
What a crushing disappointment; don't know what the other guys here are listening to but I do know what they're smoking! This is exactly the kind of 'Muzak' Fagen's detractors have been criticising for ever, except this time they're right. No decent tunes, dull lyrically and produced with all the flair of a bowl of cornflakes (listen to the terrible monotonous drumming throughout). Someone call Gary Katz!

4.0 out of 5 stars Back in black, 7 April 2013
This review is from: Delta Machine (Audio CD)
Picks up where Violator left off; which has got to be a good thing. The album works best if listened to as a whole, revealing a circuitous and shadowy narrative. And sonically as interesting as ever too.
The band have stayed relevant with this unlike so many of their contemporaries. So top-marks for not becoming complacent.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY MODERN, 3 Mar. 2011
This review is from: We're New Here (Audio CD)
Think some reviews have missed the point here a little bit; it's not meant to sound like a new album from Gil Scott Heron or for that matter the xx. Instead it's a new sonic creation, some of which wouldn't sound out of place on the new Radiohead album. If you listen without preconceptions you might just agree with me that this is the best release of 2011 so far - truly modern sounding music not limited by genre.
