Demon Lord
Demon Lord
Price: £0.00

2.0 out of 5 stars Dark Fantasy, 11 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Demon Lord (Kindle Edition)
Very well written though a very thin plot. The story is about a young woman who is deatined to save the world from a demon lord by influencing his son. The book is violent throughout and the girl commits the classic error of all battered women, when she tells her friend that she can percieve the good in the Demon Lord`s son, and she wants to help him, even when all those around her see him as evil incarnate.
The entire book could have been written as an introductory chapter and is merely a teaser for the rest of the series.
I didn't like the idea. There is NO reason why any woman should accept being repeatedly beaten EVER.

Excellent and intricate story of a warranted knight, Gavin Kinshield. He is a descendant of the man who not only failed to save the life of his king and queen and thier unborn heir, but who lacked the courage and conviction to keep a sacred promise. Gavin resembles his ancestor in more than just looks. Will he be able to find a way to escape from his destiny?
I enjoyed this book. I rarely rate a book five stars but this deserves it. It explores a land, of magic and demons, with imagination and novel concepts. Then goes further and explores the motivations of, and the inner demons of, the characters. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Mira is the only person in her world without a magic power. How can she survive in high school when fierce competition is encouraged?

I enjoyed this book the characters are likeable and the plot is twisty enough to keep you guessing. As the first of a series there are plot points not resolved, but there is a satisfactory conclusion to this first book. There are a few spelling mistakes. I recommend you read it.

First of a series, an excellent beginning. Thalien is a slave, a messenger at Ontar keep, but during the festival of the "Caller" he discovers that he has inborn talent with magic. All he wants is the chance to kiss his girl. Finding an opportunity is much harder than he imagined.

This is a good story, well written with likeable (and gruesome) characters. It is violent and brutish in places so not suitable for a younger reader. I liked it and intend to buy the sequel.

I am disgusted with Robin Hobb that she allowed herself to be persuaded, by greedy publishers, to perpetrate this con on her loyal readers. Shame on you Ms Hobb. I will never buy another book of yours.

4.0 out of 5 stars Science Fantasy short story, 25 Oct. 2014
I enjoyed readimg this story. I found it a little difficilt to embrace so many strange concepts so quickly. There was no explanatiom of the significance of different skin colours or gender roles though the authot mentions them frequently. However the plot flows well and the characters are likeable. I would happilt read the rest of the serial.

Suggestions and discussions pertaining to the framing of the US constitution. Fairly heavy going but a fascinating insight into the history of the United States.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy romance., 28 Jan. 2014
Thinly disguised pornography. The story of Tianna a helpless female at the mercy of a sex starved world. It begins with suggestive remarks and voyeuriism, moves on to seduction then becomes increasingly brutal, I gave up on finding any plot elements when rape appeared. Thos is a terrible book and not worth the nothing I paid for it. It gets one star because zero isn"t an option.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chinese Folk Lore Tales., 25 Jan. 2014
An anthology of chinese folklore. Telling morality tales from a chinese perspective. I found it a little disappointing, in that the stories have been westernised by the translator, so they do not have the cultural content that other stories in this genre have. Nevertheless They were storues I had not read before. I enjoyed reading them.

Tells the story of Wynfeard a female growing up in Anglo Saxon England (around 600AD). There are heroes and villians, loves and betrayals, joys and despairs. A compelling story of a woman's struggle to protect herself and her family.
This style of book does not usually appeal to me. I thought I would give this a try since it was free. I didn't put it down until I had finished it.
