4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Book on the Power of Yoga to Heal, 7 Nov. 2009
For those who want to practice therapeutic yoga, this is THE book. The author, Dr. Timothy McCall is both a yogi and a doctor. In the first chapters he explains the general health benefits of yoga, looking at scientific research and personal accounts of people who have used yoga to help them recover from injury, post-operations and chronic disease, etc. Then he shows how some practitioners have used yoga for different health problems, ranging from arthritis to asthma, HIV/AIDS, depression, overweight, heart disease, headaches, cancer, etc.. A very useful tool for those who wish to improve their general well-being and improve their chances of recovering with particular ailments.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good play and a good film, 3 Mar. 2009
This review is from: East Is East (Paperback)
If you liked the film East is East, you'll love the play. In fact, the film is based on the play, i.e. the film script is actually written by the playwright and it is, after all, based on his own life. However, the play and the film are not alike, in that the author has made some very different choices. In the play, the focus is on the trouble of the youngest member of the family whilst in the film he's less central. I recommend seeing both play and film, as they are definitely complementary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book on Medieval Art, 3 Mar. 2009
I can recommend this book on Medieval Art and Architecture. There are many good explanations and the author concentrates on certain buildings/pieces as well as mentioning other examples of the same type. The only detail I believe this book could improve is the quality of the images included. There are some good colour pictures, but often the photographs are in a grainy black and white. Absolutely a fine text, as long as you can view the objects discussed on the Internet in parallel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting subject matter, but confusing book to read., 3 Mar. 2009
I bought A History of Western Architecture for the course I am taking in Art History as it was one of the course's obligatory textbooks. I have to admit that, despite the very interesting subject matter, this is not one of the most pedagogical textbooks I have read. In fact, I believe a few things could defenitely be improved. Many complexe architectural terms are not explained or, if they are so in another chapter, there is no reference to where this explanation is. Some words are listed in the back of the book with definitions, but this does not emcompass all. Also, the authors mention many buildings without including images, plans or drawings of them. This book can, therefore, only be enjoyed if one has already knowledge about architecture or read other, better explained textbooks in advance.
