Alan Jones' first novel is a gritty and gripping tale from the outset. He has a mastery of dialogue and has created a believable and sympathetic lead character - John McDaid. I love the way he has built tension in the narrative, and you just will not want to put the book down until you live the whole scenario. This book resonates strongly with me, and I consider it to be a great new work of Scottish fiction.

The mature voices of Charlie and Dave are like well distilled whisky. Chas has his growling cutting edge sound, complimented by Dave's soulful mellow timbre. They regale us here with a superb selection of old songs from the American dust bowl to the nifty spark of the skiffle era. The production is masterly, and brings out the natural acoustics of the backing players to perfection. Martin Taylor adds a touch of class to the proceedings, but the whole ensemble is well represented in each different track. This makes for an album of genius, which I am proud to have in my collection. It is the memorable album of 2013!

This is a great journey through golf and life and death, perceptively written by Andrew Greig. He captures much that I feel when golfing alone. His descriptions of the courses and character of Scotland are very poetic. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the human spirit.

A vivid , visceral tale set in the wild border country of 16th century Scotland. The characters were beautifully drawn by Andrew Greig. A poetic genius!

This is a great book about great song writers. It gives an intriguing insight into the song writing craft, and the sometimes incidental and accidental moments that turned a particular 'good' song into something special. It is clear that John needed Paul and Paul needed John in the early years of their song writing, and they did spur one another on to produce some magic. George, on the other hand, needed no one but himself as he was quietly absorbing greater influences in the world. I would highly recommend this book to all lovers of song writing.

If anyone deserves a Knighthood for sevices to popular music, it is Joe Brown. This is a testament to his longevity and ability to perform a wide ranging repertoire of great songs. His own numbers are among the best on the album. The production and balance of ukeleles versus other instruments is brilliant. It just makes you smile to listen! Keep on rocking Joe!
