4.0 out of 5 stars JUST NOT AS FUNNY AS PREVIOUS SEASONS!, 23 Jun 2009
The quality of the writing really began to dip during season 5 of the Golden Girls, when you compare it to past seasons. However when compared to other TV sitcoms of the time, it's still a great show.

I bought season 4 & 5 from Australia, as they are not available in the UK or Ireland on region 2. I purchased through an Amazon seller and I recommend all fans to do the same.

To say season 5 was controversial would be an understatement. The Girls confront issues such as artificial insemination, Animal rights, Euthanasia and Aids. I mean this was 1989, some 20 years ago and the Golden Girls were brave enough to tackle problems head on.
A must for any fan!

3.0 out of 5 stars IT'S NO WEST WING!!!, 23 Jun 2009
Brilliantly written, but flawed. The characters are well drawn and interact extremely well. The dialogue is intelligent, thought provoking, fast and snappy. However the problem lies in the storytelling and the pace of the show. It just doesn't move fast enough and the story arcs don't grip you. There just isn't anything on the screen for you to invest in! It's worth watching, don't get me wrong, but it's not a 5 star show...... in fact it's not even close.

For those of you wondering why it was canceled..... It came down to cost and ratings. NBC committed to the show before a script was even in place and paid a huge amount of money to Warner Brothers so that the show would air on NBC.

As for the ratings, well they sucked and unfortunately it wasn't down to bad scheduling. NBC had the show airing at 10pm Mondays with Heroes as it's lead in. At the time heroes was drawing upwards of 15 million viewers, so the show had no excuses when it lost 60% of it's lead in audience. Granted the shows were not compatible, but what show would of worked with Studio 60?

3.0 out of 5 stars looks who's missing!!!, 18 Feb 2004
I saw the first epesoide of raw and haven't really missed all that many since then. So by buying this dvd i was under the impression that i would be getting a memory recap as it were of the last 10 years of Raw. If your buying this dvd to find out what went down on Raw over the last 10 years don't waste your money as i did. It really is a dvd showing the award show celebrating 10 years of raw and only deals with modern stars over the last 3 years. It has no historic value at all. In fact the show went out on tv in America and this dvd is just a way for the WWE to make a few bucks of something they gave away for free months ago. Even alot of the dvd extras were shown on raw leading up to the award show itself so there isn't really anything new on the damn thing. If you really want to get to grips with raw you should try and get your hands on best of monday night raw videos 1-12 and best of raw is war on dvd volumes 1-3. They would help you alot more if you were seriously trying to get to know about Raw's gone by. This dvd is like a bad teacher. You'll learn nothing by paying it any attention. o and about the heading. At the show nearly every winner isn't even in attendance. That includes the rock and stone cold. plus i'm convinced the thing is rigged anyway !

5.0 out of 5 stars a voice that could melt the coldest heart :-), 14 Feb 2004
This review is from: Introduction (Audio CD)
In coming to this album you must consider the emotional state of Alex Parks. A women who up to 6 months ago had been unknown. A women who struggled with her sexuality. A women stuggling to deal with new found fame and fortune. On her album Alex answers these questions in both joyful and heart-wrenching fashion.
Songs such as cry shatter you with it's sultry verses and amazingly dramatic chorous. Alex's voice on cry is simply a showcase of her natural talent and her way of telling the world i deserve this and i'm going to be a star.
I love her cover of imagine, beautiful and yellow. In fact i feel she sings yellow even better than chris martin. to take on lennon and Agulaira is very brave and admirable and she delivers powerful renditions of both imagine and and beautiful. She's more then able for the challenge.
For a debut album to deliver so much by someone so young and inexpeirenced is an achievement by anyone's standards. I adore this album and Alex Parks for giving it to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shines the spotlight on the real wrestling world!, 14 Feb 2004
For years the wrestling world has been a very secretive organisation shrouded in controversy. The wrestling world has allways kept us in the dark and this book manages to bring light into our world and show us what exactly the wrestling world has been hiding for over 50 years!
The book, if your a knew fan won't be relevant. As a fan of wrestling for over 10 years it helped me get to grips with certain things i had trouble understanding.
Things such as "kayfab". In the book we learn this is the code used by the wrestlers to tell people to shut up as there was an outsider (someone who wasn't involved in wrestling and didn't know it was fake)coming. There is so much more stuff like that in this book that is so interesting.
This book is like the history book we were thought from at school. Only it dosn't contain facts on the cold war, it contains facts on the Austin and Mcmahon war. It's your wrestling history book.

3.0 out of 5 stars It ain't all it's cracked up to be!, 14 Feb 2004
From the other reviews posted I've seen Wrestlemania 19 has been hailed as a 5 star, overwhelming success and quite frankly i don't think it was.
I've seen just about every Wrestlemania, i've read books, reports and magazines on just about every Wrestlemania and there ain't no way in hell i'd even consider 19 as one of the greatest of all time.
Wrestlemaina 3,6,8,14,15,2000,17,18 are all better.
Lets face it. How good can a ppv claim to be when it's main event is Angle v Lesner for the damn 4th time?
What was crap... it's easier to name what was good!!!
The Jericho Michaels match was excellent. Both men are mirror images of each other and work well together in the ring. The match was a well put together masterpiece with great spots and a nice atmosphere about it.
The womens title match was good. It shows how much the womens division has come on and it keeps you entertained. Trish puts on a steller performance.
Hogan v Vince was 20 years in the making and lasts about 20 minute. It's a great performance by two men around the 50 year old mark.
The game v Booker T was o so predictable. We all Knew the game was going to win. The rock v Austin was slow, predictable and nowhere near as good as part one or two, plus we knew the rock had to win.
The rest of the card ain't worth talking about.
Buy the dvd if you want to see 3 good matches and 2 average ones. The ppv was rushed and thrown together with limited build up. Your not missing much if you don't buy it.
MY ADVICE: Save your money and buy the Survivor Series. It's much better and will be far more entertaining! (availble from early march on Amazon)

WWE Royal Rumble 2003 [DVD]

3.0 out of 5 stars A Sign of what was to come, 14 Feb 2004
This review is from: WWE Royal Rumble 2003 [DVD] (DVD)
2003 was the wwe's worst year ratings and ppv wise in 7 years. The ppv drew a 0.95 buyrate in the US when it went out in January 03. This means about 380,000 people bought it. That wasn't good as over 600,000 people had bought the event in the two previous years!
So that begs the question... What was it about the 2003 Royal Rumble that made it somewhat a failure for the wwe. Let me tell you.
The card dosn't set you alight. The big failures on the night were the wwe booking team. So to the matches.
The worst: dawn v torie - a disaster. No wrestling what so ever. It was a cringe worthy display by the two divas that would bring a tear to your eye or a gun to your head.
world TM: the game v steinner - Steinner can't sell, the game didn't want to. So we ended up with a snore fest that didn't have one memorable moment.
Lesner v The big show - this match wasn't to bad and had a good chemistry between the two wrestlers that made it very watchable. A bit slow though.
The royal rumble match and the tag title match were predictable, a bit boring and didn't bring anything new. The rumble match itself wasn't nearly as good as previous years.
Why this ppv deserves 3 stars is down to 1 match.
The Best: Angle v benoit- the match of the year. It's brilliant. It,s fast, it has well thought out spots (sucsession of moves)it has drama and it has the 2 best wrestlers in the wwe.
Buy this dvd to see this match!
