4.0 out of 5 stars Efficient, 26 Jun. 2012
I disagree with the other two reviewers regarding the taste. Please don't be under allusions, it's disgusting. The taste isn't as strong as natural hemp protein, which is akin to drinking a glass of mud, but isn't a million miles away.

On the plus side it is a high source of protein and ideal for anyone who doesn't want to use whey. I think the benefits outweigh the taste.

3.0 out of 5 stars New recipe - different from how it used to be, 8 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having bought this product previously (when 2kg came in 4 500g packets) and been happy I was keen to purchase again. However the 2kg vanilla version came in one large bag (not a big deal), and seemed to be a completely different formula.

For one it tasted chemically, unlike the previous batch. Also the measuring cup you need to make the drinks had more than doubled in size, meaning you needed two scoops (120g) to get 25g of protein. As a result I flew through the whole thing very quickly whereas the previous batch lasted twice as long.

It's a shame they've altered the product to such an extent as it was previously good value for money. Will be exploring alternatives in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Predominantly banging, 2 Feb. 2011

There are some really really good covers on this album. The Seven Nation Army (Nostalgia 77) cover is a large, swelling wave of a song with a fantastic lead vocal. It gives a completely new feel to the song.

The Sexual Healing cover is full of hand clapping joy; a great cover.

My favourite is the Brown Paper Bag cover - it's slowed down and moody with a wicked bass line.

There were a couple of tracks I didn't care for. Smooth Criminal only shared the lyrics with the original and the music felt confused. Naive was a bit weak.

However this is a really great album with lots of surprises put out by a top record label that deserve your support

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak, 2 Feb. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This album is pretty poor compared to other breaks albums out there. I would advise you look into the Superbreaks series or just other funk and soul compilations like Funk Drops. No real stand out tracks; it's forgetable background music when it should be shaking you to your core.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value for money, 2 Feb. 2011

This album is ideal for anyone who's a newcomer to the genre. It provides a great assortment of songs from the last 40+ years - the vast majority proper stompers; ideal if you like pretending you're in a blaxploitation film (Sport by Lightning Rod and Superfly by Curtis Mayfield being two prime examples).

The 3rd CD lets it down a little as there are FAR superior modern funk albums available... but tailed on to the end of two albums rammed with classics you can't complain.

For the money, you can't really go wrong

4.0 out of 5 stars Great showcase for modern funk and soul, 31 Jan. 2011

There are no track listings on Amazon so here they are:

01. Kings Go Forth - One Day
02. Shaolin Temple Defenders - Deadly Corners
03. Eli "Paperboy" Reed - Satisfier
04. Trio Valore - Return Of The Iron Monkey
05. Kokolo - Girls On Film
06. Unity - Don't Wanna Change (feat Lizzy Parks - Nostalgia 77 remix)
07. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Keep On Looking (Kenny Dope remix)
08. Zamali - No Luck 2 Run
09. Andy Lewis - Devastated (Mr Comicstore remix)
10. Baby Charles - Time Wasting
11. Osaka Monaurail - Double Up Now
12. Diplomats Of Solid Sound - Trouble Me (feat The Diplomettes)
13. The Sweet Divines - Keckuva Man
14. Breakestra - Little Miss Funky Sole
15. The New Mastersounds - Idle Time (Lack Of Afro remix)
16. Lee McDonald - I'll Do Anything For You (Red Astaire Philly mix)

The first track is a fast and punchy opener and possibly the best on the album. There are a lot of really good (and some unreleased) tracks including what is probably Eli Paperboy Reed's best song (to date), some really interesting covers and some banging jazz (Trio Valore's track is awesome).

Although not every track is a winner it provides a great cross section of modern funk and soul for anyone interested in that area of music. The CD is worth it for Baby Charles on her own so with the other tracks it's a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but effective, 27 Oct. 2010

This is the cheapest groin guard I found on Amazon. I used it in a Krav Maga session (where attacks to the groin area are encouraged and come regularly) and it did the job. It's comfortable and offers enough protection to ensure that you'll be able to procreate in the future.

Probably not the best guard on here, but if your budget is limited it's a worthwhile purchase. It's better than a kick in the nuts.

Also, you're half way to a Droogs fancy dress costume!

3.0 out of 5 stars The start of a funk departure, 4 Oct. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This album does boast some decent funky tracks. The title track seemed to set the scene for future ambient "trip-hop" tracks (if you hadn't heard it before and someone told you it was Nightmares on Wax you may have a case to believe them - which is quite a compliment!). It's a great laid-back summertime tune.

My only gripe with this album is that unlike so many of the great funk and soul albums of the 70's it sounds painfully dated. Legends such as Curtis Mayfield's albums sound fresh - like they could have been made yesterday. Ayer's love of the synth, which may have sounded progressive back in the day, now begins to grate.

It's still a decent album with some great moments, but not his best. Time is a cruel mistress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gargantuan tunes. Unfathomably good, 23 Sept. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Funk Drops 2 (Audio CD)
Having purchased a lot of these Funk compilation albums I can say with authority that this is the greatest. Tracks 12-14 (King Curtis, Baby Huey, Curtis Mayfield) are three of the greatest funk tracks in the history of the genre. I urge both aficionados and newcomers to purchase this album and disseminate amongst the masses because music this good needs to be shared.

Outstanding stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars James Brown's favourite singer - find out why!, 23 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Wide Awake in a Dream (Audio CD)
Vicki Anderson is such a tremendous talent. This album brings together a fantastic collection of her work; it really is criminal that she isn't better known, and celebrated as one of the greatest funk and soul singers of all time. If you need proof just check out her song "No More Heartaches, No More Pain" and kneel at the alter that is Ms Anderson.

James Brown said that she was the best female vocalist he'd ever heard. Big praise indeed, and once you hear this album, you'll struggle to argue.
