Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to the Christian Faith
Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to the Christian Faith

2.0 out of 5 stars Threw up more questions than it answered, 4 April 2013
I was rather disappointed by this book and even found it a little silly in places. I read it twice and gave it time to sink in but was left with more questions than it answered. I found statements such as: "What was God doing before creation - eternally loving His Son through the Spirit" to be incredibly presumptious! Though this is OBVIOUSLY true, nobody actually knows what ELSE God may have been doing before He began to create! To suppose such a thing is limited and humanistic at best; hardly very original and not at all profound. I prefer my beliefs to be backed up by Scripture and didn't find much evidence of that in this book. What i did find was a whole lot of suppositions and various philosopher's OPINIONS down through the ages.

Some time after i found another book, with the exact same title but written by Tim Chester, which was much more informative, insightful and full of proofs from the Bible. It was obvious that here was a book that had been thoroughly researched. It too was easy reading and not weighed down with theology but at the same time managed to treat the reader with a little more intelligence and it certainly held it's own as a thesis on the Reality of the Trinity. I found this other book to be more beautiful because it's Truths and insights were captured from Scripture and included the evolution of the Trinitarian belief down through the Ages of Church History. This made for much more convincing reading and even, dare i say it, moments of REAL delight.

It leads me to be rather suspicious about who had the idea for such a book in the first place? Michael Reeves or Tim Chester..? It's not the first time theologians have been in competition with each other and pinched one another's ideas. What's even worse is one will take another's thesis and then go and weave their own spin throughout it all, in an attempt to try and convince the world they've been original. But Tim Chester's book has that 'ring of authenticity' all the way through, which knocks this book off the shelf, in my opinion.
This is my last review on the subject and i'm sticking to it!

ILLUSTRATED HOLY BIBLE FOR CHILDREN [Illustrated] (The Holy Bible for Children (New and Old Testaments))
ILLUSTRATED HOLY BIBLE FOR CHILDREN [Illustrated] (The Holy Bible for Children (New and Old Testaments))
Price: £3.12

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Children's Bible?, 15 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an intelligent Bible for children. Well set out with lovely illustrations and beautifully written in adult-style language, although simple enough for all ages (except toddlers) to appreciate. It teaches many valuable lessons, including those from the Psalms and Proverbs as well as all the important Bible Stories from the Old and New Testaments. Nothing has been left out it seems and for this reason it is a joy for children and adults alike. Especially for us adults who tend to over-complicate The Gospel when it would benefit us to remember that it is simple enough for a child to understand. Because of the way it is set out the valuable lessons and characters of the Bible are easily held in the memory as the irrefutable examples of God's love and faithfulness and our desired response to such a wonderful Father.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE this is NOT premium Leather!, 15 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
NOWHERE in the description does it mention that this product is infact PU leather - and frankly, it reeks of plastic. The case is cheap and flimsy, the stylus is too wide to fit in the elastic holder on the side, so there is nowhere to keep it. All in all i was unhappy with this case and when i requested a refund the company actually insisted they had been honest, when clearly they hadn't and even wanted to dock me a 5% charge which they say was for postage, when infact it was me who paid the postage in the first place! In their communication i got one word, which was 'sorry' full stop. Then they went on to say product wasn't faulty and refused to admit their description did not mention PU leather. Well, you can see quite clearly for youselves that it doesn't! I found this quite incredible and by this time vowed never to use this deceitful company again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine prayers, but updated, very contemporary illustrations!, 10 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I first downloaded this book on Kindle last year and inside were some gorgeous, medievil celtic illustrations, which perfectly helped to convey the timeless and ancient theme of 'The rhythm of life.' Well matched to the daily meditations and prayers for each day. A simple book to use, far easier to follow than the complicated Common Book of Prayer and Worship - and i loved it so much i decided to buy the 'in the flesh' paperback version to carry with me and to get the feel of the prayers on paper... for there's nothing quite like holding and feeling the pages of a spiritual book, somehow it makes it all the more special and personal. However, to my horror, the lovely illustrations had been 'updated' (although why the publishers felt the need to update a book of classic and timeless celtic prayers, i'll never know?) and replaced them with a new, ultra-modern, sketchy set of drawings that i feel are too modern! I shall try and ignore those rather insipid, vulgar lino-prints, which look like they belong more in a retro-edition of 'Vogue magazine' than in an ancient Book of Prayers; simply for the sake of the Author, David Adam, who has excellently set out a rhythm of meditation and worship in the time-honoured tradition of Morning, Midday, Evening and Night Prayer. At least these, praise God, have not been modernised!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerising!, 20 Nov. 2012

There's something very wierd and mesmerising about this app as it takes you into outer space and i really like it! I get as much pleasure out of it as a baby does... the various toys spin about in the cosmos, to the sound of a sweet, tinkling musical box or you can opt for the peaceful sounds of nature. You just pull the cord and away you go ;-) It's very satisfying and very relaxing and i always fall asleep! The toys are interactive too, for example, when you touch the spinning teddy you can turn him which way you like... up and down... forwards and back... side to side... over and over... tinkle, tinkle, playing his tune... stars come down... and musical notes... see suns and moons... just thinking about it all puts me in a trance. Love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this a joke..?, 20 Nov. 2012

This review is from: Baby Sleeper (App)
This has to be the biggest joke on the app market. If your baby falls asleep to this ridiculous noise, then it goes to prove they'll fall asleep to anything when they're tired enough! It is literally just someone (probably the developer - who is laughing all the way to the bank if they manage to actually SELL any of these..) who has the gall to take a deep breath (and you can hear it at the start of the recording) who then goes on to make a long, drawn-out 'shush' sound, obviously with their lips, which anyone can do. Literally, that's all there is to it. Sounds more like the air coming out of a bicycle tire and i am LOATHE to believe it is a sound produced by a mother's womb... so what happened? Someone pop a pin in her abdomen..?!

1.0 out of 5 stars Quite boring and pointless, 20 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Baby Girl Dress Up (App)
I didn't even want to give it one star. For me it was completely boring and very limited and i wouldn't want to pay for this app. You can't even save your changes once you've 'dressed the baby' and that is all you can do... just dress her up in a small number of pithy outfits. When you come out of the game and later return you are back to staring at a bald, naked baby waiting to be dressed... yawn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice but not worth paying for, 20 Nov. 2012

I wish i hadn't bothered paying for this app - just to look at it on facebook and share the news... because apart from that, it offers you nothing more than the free app!
I give it four stars because it's a cute, peaceful, satisfying little game - even if it is a little slow to get your baby anywhere - you need a lot of patience as you gradually, sometimes excruciatingly slowly, build up points... to dress, play and furnish your baby with all good things such as clothes, toys, furniture and more; all in a make-believe house. Nice graphics though and no hassle with time-keeping or baby dying on you! Not for a very long while, anyway... i left my cyberbaby for six months before i came back to him and though he was a little cranky, he was still alive!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pungent 'weedy' smell!, 20 Nov. 2012
At first, i found the smell over-powering. Very strong Hemp seed (Cannabis!) which i'm not a fan of! I think i expected it to be a bit more subtle than that or at least, 'disguised' in some way... However, it foams nicely and feels quite gentle, even if the smell leaves a lot to be desired. I bought it because it promises to be moistursing; well it was fairly hydrating and my skin felt quite soft, so maybe i'll get used to the pungent smell! Think this is more a fragrance to suit the men though as it doesn't really do anything to complement the 'fairer sex!'
