A Great True To Life Film, 7 Mar. 2001
This is my favourite "Mike Leigh" film, I love them all but this one beats them all. I do not usually like long films in fact sitting still for the duration of a hourlong program is not something I find easy. With this film howeverI did not even notice the time I was so engrossed wiht it. The acting is brilliant especially "Brenda Blehtyn" who was fantastic, some may remember her in an earlier "Mike Leigh" film "Grown Ups". She was great in that too, playing a similar emotional character. Like all his films this is so true to life you could be watching a fly on the wall documentry. The plot is about someone trying to trace her true parents and on finding them find both social and racial differences. But it is so much more than that. This is a character film which looks at the lives of each one in detail and seeing them go about everyday activeties. It is very emotoinal in parts and in others very funny, the scenes with Roxanne and her mother and some of the funniest. A lot of hard work and effort went in to making this and it deserved every award it got.
