2.0 out of 5 stars Inaccuracies and heavily biased to American market., 22 Aug. 2012
This is an easy book to read, clearly aimed at an American public, as the spellings are American throughout and superfluous explanations are sometimes given that a British person would not need to read.
I found many of the stories had an American lean too, with plenty of anecdotes regarding American Presidents and personalities.

Whilst the book is very kind to Her Majesty the Queen, and quite rightly so, I found it to be highly biased against Princess Diana, or at least unsympathetic towards her. The parts dedicated to her are certainly not warm nor written by someone who held her in any esteem. That leaps off the page.

There is one howling inaccuracy where the author states that The Princess of Wales got pregnant during her honeymoon, which is quite frankly ridiculous, if one considers the date of the wedding and Prince William's birth date. Unforgiveable error, easily checked. Poor research and even poorer editing (the error should have been picked up).

5.0 out of 5 stars If you ever wondered why Elvis became a worldwide phenomenon..., 5 Oct. 2011
In reply to the other review, this set is not only for real fans (who, by the way, ARE interested in studio talk and multiple takes). It's interesting to hear how Elvis worked, and with no new material being released (for obvious reasons) by Elvis, we the true fans love these releases.
However apart from that, this box set gives a new listener a good insight into his early career, beyond the overplayed standards, and helps explain why Elvis became the huge phenomenon he did, and why he is still an icon in the music business today, admired by fans and performers alike, as he always will be.
This is young Elvis, the young man who took the USA by storm before he was 20, and a little later on won over the rest of the world. And he still sells musics, and sells out virtual concerts, 34 years after his death.
That's not hype, it's talent; that's a star. Buy this box set and find out why.
