The Politics of Climate Change
The Politics of Climate Change
by Anthony Giddens
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent summation of the political problems of Climate Change, 21 Jun. 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the third copy I have owned - previous copies have been loaned then passed on then on again until lost. Folks who cannot seriously grasp the science and maths behind climate change can take to the amazingly devious politics of the deniers and the energy company's professional liars. Hopefully when folks see how much effort has gone into attempting to hide climate change they will look more closely at the truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars well thought out product, 21 Jun. 2012

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a really subtle way to introduce young folk to the realities of performing arts - it succeeds in tracing a pathway down the middle - not to fanciful to build up egos that may be damaged - but not too dismissive of dreams of stardom. Well done

1.0 out of 5 stars Perfect example, 17 Jun. 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Every teacher of writing should have access to this book - you will struggle to find a more perfect example of how not to put a book together.

For two months this has been on the coffee table - whenever anything appears on the TV not worth watching the book gets picked up and on and on we slog with it. Page after page of numbers about countries are thrown at you, income, growth, debt, wealth, population - but you have no way of knowing what the number is telling you - is it good or bad, for them or for us. You scream for a table, a graph, maybe a chart or a list in some sort of order - so you can compare and assimilate what the significance is of all the facts thrown at you by the lorry load. If the sections had highlighted headings you might look back and compare this country datum with previous ones - or even just sub-chapter numbering with cross references. You get no help at all. Chapter after chapter goes by and the reader is not one tiny bit better informed, absolutely nothing from the page sticks in the memory to improve your understanding of the topic.

Aargh !! To cap it all, as you finish the book you discover that from around page 260 there are some maps and charts of data which might have helped a little - but the previous text never refers to any of them, and of course the maps fail to inform you which chapters they refer to.

An utter disaster of a book.

Germs: Biological Weapons and America's Secret War
Germs: Biological Weapons and America's Secret War
by Judith Miller
Edition: Paperback
Price: £16.99

4.0 out of 5 stars a good starter on the topic, 24 Feb. 2012

From the cover you hope that at long last this will answer the huge questions about Iraq and the WMDs (those that we DID find, but then denied existed) ... Did our allies sell them to Hussein but we dare not admit it ? Was it Russia, North Korea, Iran - and we dare not confront them ? ... Or was it all a huge showbiz bravado act built around a few skilled lab technicians. This book gets a little nearer to confronting the elephant in the room - but we are still awaiting the truth.

The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science That Could Save Your Life
The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science That Could Save Your Life
by Ben Sherwood
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars struggle to get interested, 27 Jan. 2012

This book has been around for several months and i have not got past chapter two ... it goes on and on with promises about how it is going to reveal some really interesting facts about what makes a survivor type of person ... but so far not a hint of any such thing. Life is too short, there must be an easier way of finding out without wading through padding text.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good gift for a "doubter" friend, 27 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Prepper's Pocket Guide (Paperback)
Most preppers start with the lists - and after some years they have them developed into rather sophisticated spreadsheets. This pocket sized is a starter's book of lists, of little practical use to a matured prepper ,,,, but a great present to give to friends and neighbours who begin to show an interest in the topic.

3.0 out of 5 stars needs updating, 27 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book is very U.S.A. based - and it dwells on what happened a long time ago - so useful to an historian maybe ? What we need is a study of 21st Century schooling systems which persist in producing kids who cannot read and write after ten years schooling.

1.0 out of 5 stars the title tells all ?, 18 Jan. 2012

Search high and low .... but apart from the promise in the title there is not one single iota of DISINFORMATION ! Some of the lists are interesting but if you seek information about facts that are widely believed but untrue, you must seek elsewhere.
