5.0 out of 5 stars The funniest and most creative play out there, 11 Feb 2014

Hilarious play that works on so many levels. Very hard to review without giving the plot away but I loved the way Shakespeare is utilised and the play on critics' sensibilities kept me laughing until the very end. Excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money and buy "Season on the Brink" instead, 11 Feb 2014
This review is from: Messi (Hardcover)
Overall the storytelling is poor, and it is very repetitive. It is impressive that he could turn the narrative of "boy is good at football, boy is small and needs hormones, Argentinian club won't pay, Barcelona pay, boy is quiet and stubborn but wins games single handed, becomes best player in the world but is still socially awkward. Boy then needs to be coddled, won't tolerate not getting his way or others having the leading role and acts like a child all the time crying and huffing. Then has a baby, spits on someone once, handballs it once and gets a haircut. Oh, and is cordial with Ronaldo" into 600 pages. That's about it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product but beware if anything goes wrong, 14 Nov 2011
My Le Chameau Vierzonords were the best wellies I have ever owned. Comfortable like a trainer but practical for all kinds of weather and terrain.

However, there is a major fault with these which means I will never purchase another pair.

After 11 months a small hole developed in the sole. This let a tiny amount of water into the boot - a discomfort but nothing to cry about.

I took the wellies to an approved Le Chameau dealer who sent them on to the actual company.

Le Chameau not only refused to fix them, saying "The boots have obviously not been put on and removed using an official Le Chameau device so the warranty is invalid" but they kept them too.

So I can't have someone else fix them.

So beware. You are paying £200.00 for wellington boots that may last less than a year, Le Chameau will use every trick in the book to invalidate the warranty and they won't let you have them back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick review - for those 'thinking' of buying Batman: AC, 21 Oct 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Have played for 6 or 7 hours, easily.

I've just unlocked the 'Sandstorm' achievement so that tells you how long I've played without spoilers.

Thoughts so far:

It is incredible, absolutely no arguments, this is better than Arkham Asylum.

You are thrown straight away into the entire city. The sense of freedom - being able to glide and zip yourself around - is sensational.

They have squeezed in loads of villains, even though some of them get substantially less screen time than others.

The main story is full of breathtaking set pieces and I am not even half way through this blockbuster.

---------------------------------------- Spoiler ----------------------------------------

There are 4 times as many Riddler challenges. Finding them is amazingly fun and a welcome distraction from the main story.

Working With Children and Animals: The Autobiography of Liza Goddard
Working With Children and Animals: The Autobiography of Liza Goddard

5.0 out of 5 stars They say you never should but Liza Goddard has done it all, 11 Oct 2011
This is a sweet, intricate look into the life of one of England's finest actresses. Stories detailing work on famous series like Skippy and Bergerac are fascinating along with anecdotes on the greatest talents of our time - did you know Liza Goddard spurned the advances of a young Luciano Pavarotti?

While this book is not a 'no holds barred' look at Liza's life it is how autobiography's should be written. Liza Goddard has known and worked with Richard Burton, Alan Ayckbourn, Princess Anne and her considerable talents have taken her to the top of the showbiz world. Who doesn't want to read about that?

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS VERSION IF YOU'VE OWNED AC2 BEFORE, 3 Dec 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The actual Assassin's Creed 2 game plus extra content for this price is the best deal you can find on the Playstation 3 as this is one of the most sensational PS3 games and is a bargain that should not be missed.

HOWEVER this game does NOT recognize previous Assassin's Creed 2 saved game data.

If you buy this pack you will have to begin the game all over again. All that effort to build Monteriggioni, complete missions or collect feathers will be gone.

This is THE most infuriating and disappointing video game I have ever bought - and that includes "Mike Tyson's Punch Out".

So while Assassin's Creed 2, Game of the Year Edition, may be one of the most fun games on the PS3, for people who have already owned Assassin's Creed 2 this pack will be the worst game they have ever bought.

4.0 out of 5 stars AN ASTONISHING GAME THAT IS NO LONGER IN POLE, 24 Nov 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) (Video Game)
After playing this for twenty four hours, Amazon did me a treat by it arriving the day before release, it just seems to have been caught up by some of the other racing games like Forza.

The gameplay just isn't dynamic any more in a market that has moved on from when GT was the leading game. Especially in the multiplayer/online area which GT5 is terrible compared to Forza. Hopefully this will improve in future patches but as we have had to wait so long for the release this is very poor.

The menus are slow and cumbersome and the loading times are poor, even after the install.

However, the game has fantastic, tiny details that will keep you astounded and great depth in single player. The graphics are good but not outstanding like they once used to be compared to the other competitors. It will provide hours, and probably days, of fun in single player.

The PS3 controller is very poor in racing games which does not help things. A wheel should improve playability and feedback.

Overall it is a good game but its let down by the very poor online multiplayer which in this day and age should be one of the core elements. GT is not head and shoulders above its competitors any more and in some areas is now behind them even after 5 years of development

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star football from FIFA... and EA, 1 Oct 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA 11 (PS3) (Video Game)
I haven't played a football game for years so I cannot compare this to recent FIFA games or PES.

This is a fabulous football game that I can't believe I've dragged myself away from to write this review.

The graphics are as good as you can see on the PS3 with players looking more realistic than ever, immersive commentary and very realistic "it's like being there" atmosphere.

The action is great - I haven't played a football game in years but it took little time to master passing, do skills while dribbling and scoring a "perfect hat-trick".

The real winner is the player though as I have never seen so many options in any game. Single player could take you years to complete and then there's home multi-player and online multi-player, where one achievement will take 500 games!
I think you could literally play this game forever.

Many people may complain this game doesn't match up to recent FIFA games or PES but I can tell anyone that this is a fabulous football game with never-ending game play in a stunning atmosphere. What more could you want?

1.0 out of 5 stars Excellent... for a few days, 6 July 2010
This cable is perfect for converting a SCART output to RGB...

But it won't last long.

Most people will be buying this cable to run SCART to RGB and not the other way around - just like I did. The switch on the SCART connection appears to be a good idea, and I certainly felt a sense of 'you never know I might need that', but in practise is rather pointless as you don't use this cable as RGB to SCART.

Only the second time I used the cable the switch broke and ruined the connection.

So I held the switch in the "OUT" place but then teeth started to come off the SCART connection.

Luckily I can reconnect SCART teeth but for anyone without a tech degree this would mean the cable would be useless.

Then the Red connection of the RGB came loose but I was able to fix that.

The final straw came when the cable deteriorated due to the enormous amount of heat it produces (which also suggests further problems) and ruined the image quality.

In short, the cable is cheap for a reason. If you want to convert SCART to RGB, buy a cable that specifically does just that.

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star graphics, 4 Star story but a 3 Star game, 13 April 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Uncharted 2 can be summed up (and has been in other reviews) by countless beauty adjectives: gorgeous, sumptuous, visual feast etc.

However if you look further, beneath the beauty as such, you are left with a game that decreases in value as you play - 5 star graphics, 4 star story, 3 star gameplay and 2 star controls.

To back up my review I can say I have completed the game on Hard and Crushing, played online and collected all the trophies. This is mostly because of my competitive side.

As I have already covered the graphics, I will move on to the story which is intricate with lots of turns and few plot holes. A little cheesey for some but Stoppard compared to most "story-related" video games.

The gameplay is almost identical to the first game. You view the action in the third person, over the hero's shoulder. However the hero still can't run, and any jump looks like a man on crutches. You will lose count of the number of times you die suddenly because the hero doesn't move in the direction you want him to or your companion pushes you over a cliff or you line up a jump and he moves to his side and dies. Sometimes the gameplay is so bad I have to quit the game otherwise I'll end up throwing my controller at the television in anger.

And this brings me to my main point of contention with the game - the controls are terrible. The hero is very slow and with one button for jump AND climb up you find yourself dying for no reason... a lot. Similarly "take cover" is automated by the game by one button press so many times you end up taking cover in front of the people shooting you... and dying a lot again. When we have games like Batman: AA and Assassin's Creed 2 with beautiful gameplay aspects, controls and gameplay should not be a problem.

To conclude, this is a beautiful game with a great story but the gameplay and controls will drive you mad.
