It has appeal to me as a coin collector but to anyone just wanting to find out a bit more about numismatics, there are much more readable texts out there.

Geeks will love it, if you want to learn how to use Ubuntu - don't bother! It has a few handy hints and is written in friendly tone. Very much a reference book to keep in your drawer but it could do with a bit of updating.

The Hanoverians: The History of a Dynasty (Dynasties)
The Hanoverians: The History of a Dynasty (Dynasties)
by Jeremy Black
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly engaging, 15 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to aid some research into an area of coin collecting I find particularly interesting and found it to be quite readable while going into plenty of depth. Very few places to skip through so make sure you are prepared for a long read - it feels just slightly disjointed in some places. Otherwise - highly recommended.

Crown and Country: A History of England through the Monarchy
Crown and Country: A History of England through the Monarchy
by David Starkey
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.08

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and easily read, 12 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this item to gain more of an understanding about the progression of the British monarchy throughout the ages. It does a very good job of filling in the blanks about some of the periods in our history with which I was less familiar and provides interesting anecdotes about the more famous monarchs along the way. The style in which the author narrates the book is actually very engaging and was the right way to go about it in my opinion. Some readers may expect a different narrative style if they are used to reading other books in this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting, 17 Mar. 2013

This review is from: The History of Money (Paperback)
I bought this having read some very positive reviews but I was not prepared for it to be quite such an interesting read! As someone with an interest in numismatics, I found this book to be an easily readable and informative text covering the human history of coinage and economics with some truly surprising discoveries for the reader along the way! If you are an economics student or an experienced numismatic researcher, there are more technical and detailed books out there. For the general public with an interest, this is perfectly pitched.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bible!, 13 Mar. 2013

Absolutely essential for anyone with a serious interest in UK numismatics! Provides an accurate albeit brief synopsis, fairly current coin market values and a brilliant and comprehensive view of the history of UK coins. No british coin collector should be without it in my opinion!

Rolson Magnifying Glass (2 Pieces) (discontinued by manufacturer)
Rolson Magnifying Glass (2 Pieces) (discontinued by manufacturer)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, decent quality, 13 Mar. 2013

These two magnifying glasses serve nicely to examine coins in a little more detail than the naked eye. They are nothing special and not particularly sturdy but for the price, the images are quite good.

The Official Blue Book Handbook of United States Coins
The Official Blue Book Handbook of United States Coins
by R. S. Yeoman
Edition: Paperback
Price: £3.87

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential Guide to US coin values, 3 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This has to be the most authoritative source on the values of American coins. Obviously it is not up-to-the-minute in its values as things change throughout the year. It should go without saying that the book is written for its US readers (UK readers may find it slightly less accurate), but the other thing to bear in mind when purchasing this book is that the values it contains are reflective of what a dealer might pay you for your coin collection - not what you should expect to pay them for the coin in question.

Even 6 years after I first saw this masterpiece of a series it amazes and entertains me and my wife every time we watch it. Each episode has its own general focus but I couldn't really pick a favourite. This blu-ray edition is simply stunning!
