4.0 out of 5 stars Bright and fun., 18 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this for my three year old son and he absolutely loved it. However some of the pictures (which are bright and attractive, so appealing to the young) have begun to peel off the wooden shapes, and the magnetic 'hook' on the fishing line broke off the string and needs fixing with some glue. These factors aren't a big deal to be honest, and I'd still recommend this as a gift for a young child, but don't expect your grandchildren to inherit it. .

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab, 18 Sep 2013

A well made jigsaw - the pieces are strong enough to survive the battering they recieve in my home and the design is interesting enough to encourage my children to do it again and again. My six year old daughter loves animals, plants and flowers, so this has everything she could want in a jigsaw. She can do it independently, though needed help the first time - but I find it a fun activity we can do together.

5.0 out of 5 stars a logical way to teach reading, 18 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Phonics Pathways (Paperback)
While my sons learned to read using McGuffey's Primer and the Eclectic Readers, my daughter struggled with these books so I bought PPon the recommendation of a friend. It isn't the most thrilling of reads - there are virtually no pictures, no stories, and many pages are just lists of words BUT it does teach reading in a logical way that my daughter has responded well to. We do around ten minutes reading every day and are getting there.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids love hama beads, 18 July 2013

I don't know why, but my kids love hama beads - perhaps it's because they get eyecatching results with relatively effort or skill? Whatever the reason these pegboards are highly useful as without them the beads would be useless.

5.0 out of 5 stars scary but necessary reading, 18 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Dirty electricity has been linked to cancer, obesity, ADHD, depression, diabetes and other diseases of the modern age. Written by an expert it provided conclusive evidence that some electrical equipment and power lines are making us sick - but as with tobacco, those in authority are not prepared to do anything about it.

As WiFi and the use of handheld technology increases we may be facing a surge in the deaths of uneducated users. If you are worried about dirty electricity in your home or workplace you can buy a metre and filters for your home (a kit is available on ebay for about £500), but best of all you'll turn off your WiFi when it's not in use, and reduce your computer/mobile phone/TV use.

This is an excellent read. A short book written as a biography with plenty of science to back up the authors claims.

5.0 out of 5 stars keeps going through your mind, 18 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Something about this book keeps coming back to haunt me. It is split into two parts - in the first the author tells of his life in a Nazi concentration camp and of the time a dying Nazi asks him for forgiveness for the horrific murders of defenseless Jews. The author is unsure what to do at the time, and continues to ask himself and others what he should have done. After the war he finds the dead man's mother and learns more about him.
In the second part of the book various people say what they believe the author should have done - some say he should have shown compassion, some say he showed too much compassion, others say he behaved appropriately and one rather silly person suggests he should have smothered the Nazi (and presumably brought the wrath of the Third Reich onto every soul the author had ever met).

This is a book I believe every school child in the world should read and discuss as it teaches history, psychology, theology and philosophy in a practical way. Even though I read it months ago the images and questions it raised while I read it still come back to haunt me.

3.0 out of 5 stars a short reminder of the basics, 18 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a little booklet with instructions on how to form letters for joined up writing, some 'fancy' techniques for writing posters (like how to form bubble letters) and a few sentences for the student to practice writing. I wanted something with more exercises for my sons who could really do with neater writing - so I'm now getting them to copy out of other books to improve their neatness. In other words, they didn't really use or need this booklet.

3.0 out of 5 stars avoidance in a nutshell, 18 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Undoubtedly this is a good book for anyone who frequently argues unnecessarily, for those inclined towards domineering others or who can't surrender and let go when it's for the best.

If these aren't your issues and you are hoping for a book about handling difficult conversations in a mature, direct manner, or a book about asserting yourself - then this book isn't for you. For the people pleasers and avoidants amongst us this book will simply teach what they've been doing all their lives - placating, finding common ground, avoiding confrontations and adapting to others.

So this book is either really good or really bad, depending on where you're coming from.

3.0 out of 5 stars a piece of history, 18 July 2013

This is an interesting document, a piece of American history and an education in itself. It isn't thrilling reading though - for the specialist or the curious.
