5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting, 26 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Alice and Harry French are threatened in the middle of the night by men who think they know something they don’t. That is only the beginning of a nightmare that has them running for their lives and that of their baby daughter.

This is the best kind of thriller – ordinary people caught up in a frightening situation not of their own making and outside of their understanding, with everything at stake, forcing them to find inner strengths they didn’t know they had, just to stay alive. Riveting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect if you want to read something fun and different., 7 May 2016

Polly and Simon both have their own reasons to be fed up with their lot in life. Polly is in debt and has yet to have a successful relationship. Simon is middle-aged, miserable and unappreciated. Both are offered the opportunity to swap their life for someone else’s and jump at the chance. But it’s not that straightforward . . .

This is a witty and unusual story – I certainly wasn’t expecting what I got, there were plenty of twists, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride! Perfect if you want to read something fun and different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect if you fancy a country escape!, 11 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Kitty inherits Bluebell Lodge from the grandmother she didn’t even know she had – and it comes with a chicken farm! Ready for a fresh start after a bereavement, Kitty gets stuck into her new life, helped by handsome farm manager Tom and the new friends she makes along the way. But the discovery of a long-hidden diary means she must look into the family mystery it reveals before she can move forward with her life.

This is a lovely, heartwarming story about family dynamics and new starts. I enjoyed the countryside setting and the secondary characters, and the book had added interest with the parallel storyline from the diary that Kitty finds. Perfect if you fancy a country escape!

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful read!, 22 Mar. 2016

Eliza’s ‘perfect’ life begins to crumble when she discovers her celebrity husband is having an affair. To escape, Eliza decides to take her small daughter and head for Kearton Bay on the Yorkshire coast, to look for the father she never knew. As the weeks move on, Eliza makes friends with the unlikeliest of people, enjoys visits from her loveable Uncle Joe, finds out about her family . . . and tries to ignore the sparks between her and broodily attractive Gabriel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely story. The coastal village setting was beautifully described, there was an array of secondary characters to enjoy and come to care about, and it was nice to watch as Eliza is gradually reminded of who she once was and would like be to again - all whilst enjoying the author’s warm sense of humour. A delightful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A steamy and action-filled ride!, 6 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Amy’s handsome, successful is shot right in front of her at the nightclub they own – but six months later, she gets a letter seemingly written by him. As she tries to unravel the mystery and find out who is to blame for his death, she finds herself in the midst of gangland Manchester with some very dangerous people unhappy that she is stirring things up, and nothing – including the perfect relationship she had with her husband – is quite as it seems.

This is a steamy and action-filled ride between past and present, and between a set of characters each with their own motives and secrets. I was really rooting for Amy to win through and unravel it all. An exciting read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, 15 Feb. 2016
This review is from: Chosen Child (Kindle Edition)
I was fortunate to receive an advance copy from the author. I do read the occasional thriller, but I wouldn't call myself an avid reader of psychological suspense. The honest truth? I couldn't put this down. The story draws you into the characters' lives with a kind of compelling sense of . . . claustrophobia, almost, but you can't leave it alone because you need to know what happens to these people and how the plot plays out. I also enjoyed the Cornwall setting. If you want a suspenseful read that gets right under the skin of its characters, then I can happily recommend Chosen Child.

Drive Me Sane
Drive Me Sane

4.0 out of 5 stars Romance with plenty of emotion, 14 Jun. 2015
This review is from: Drive Me Sane (Kindle Edition)
Sera returns to her hometown with PTSD after army time in Afghanistan. Tyler is finding building his country music career more stressful than he imagined. When they both find themselves sharing a house for a few weeks, it's more than awkward – they were once engaged and haven't seen each other for over three years. Can they move beyond Sera's condition and anger at Tyler breaking up with her just before her deployment, as well as the pressure of Tyler's chosen career?

I enjoyed Drive Me Sane. Sera and Tyler are both likeable in their own ways and have depth. There are few secondary characters to distract from the main purpose of the story – getting these two to see past their problems and work out that they were always meant to be together. I was certainly keeping my fingers crossed for them!

If you love character-led romance with plenty of emotion, then try Drive Me Sane!

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling - with action, humour and the unexpected, 13 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Living the Dream (Paperback)
Interspersed with their connecting dreams, this story follows the fortunes of four very different characters – Kurt, a loser who just can't catch a break after a raw deal thirty years before; Vicky, the woman he blames for this downhill slide; Vicky’s wealthy husband Jimmy, no longer on the straight and narrow and looking for escape; and Danny, seemingly unconnected with the others at first.

I didn't know quite what to expect when I started reading this and struggled a little at first as the action switched between the four main characters, along with their dreams – BUT I was soon completely caught up in it. Kurt's disaster-ridden road trip to Florida and Jimmy's plan to escape his marriage and business kept me turning the page and wanting to find out how the characters interconnected and how they would come together.

There is action, humour … and best of all, the unexpected and a touch of the frankly bizarre. It's a sign of a good book when you finish the last page and feel sorry the story has come to an end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun summer read!, 24 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pippa remembers her summers spent in Greek fishing village Taxos with fondness, but when she returns after several years' absence with boyfriend Henrik in tow, she's shocked to see how run-down the place has become – and how handsome her childhood friend Niko has become!

Ignoring her increasingly complicated relationship issues, Pippa uses her accounting and business skills to rally the villagers to fight economic disaster and put life back into the village … and in so doing, her childhood dream of running a tea and scone shop there is temporarily revived, forcing her to reassess her feelings and her future.

A Game of Scones has sunshine, romance, Greek atmosphere, glorious food, subterfuge, a fight for tradition – and some great secondary characters it's hard not to make friends with. If you're looking for a fun summer read, look no further!

5.0 out of 5 stars A character-led romance that draws you in and won't let you go!, 15 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Kate was widowed with a young son when she lost her photographer husband in Afghanistan. As godfather to her son George, her husband's best friend Paul supports from a distance as Kate rebuilds her life. Kate is a well-known model but had a difficult teenage life, and now she supports other teenagers through London charity At Home. When she ropes Paul into helping with publicity in his newspaper, she begins to see that he is not the indifferent man she thought he was, and when he accompanies her on a trip to Yorkshire with At Home's disadvantaged teenagers, their relationship deepens. Can she overcome her fear of further loss and risk her son's stability to take another chance?

Once I started this book, I really couldn't put it down. I was completely caught up in the developing relationship between Kate and Paul, and shed more than a few tears along the way. Ms Fairfax has created an in-depth study of two people – what makes them tick, their hopes and fears, their pasts, the possibilities for their future. It was impossible for me not to become invested in them to the point where I so desperately wanted them to find the happiness they deserve. The secondary characters are nicely portrayed, especially young George, along with Kate's best friend Orla and the teenage girls from At Home. The scenes in Yorkshire make a nice contrast from the busy life of London.

If you are looking for a character-led romance that will draw you in and not let you go 'til the last page, then this is it!
