5.0 out of 5 stars A good eerie read, 16 July 2014

This was a different style of book than I am used to from Matt Shaw, not gory and depraved but sensitive and eerie (if that is possible at the same time!) and I loved it. Halfway through the book I could not imagine how the story would end and when I reached the end I thought that was how it should be. Sad at times but also with a dose of humour. A good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars It feels so wrong but so right to like this story!, 10 July 2014

Morally I know I shouldn't have enjoyed this book so much but it was shockingly good! Every time I read one of Matt's books I think it couldn't get any better but it does! I read it in one sitting and certainly didn't see the end coming, a complete surprise. Well done Matt another 5 star gory story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Expect the Unexpected!, 2 July 2014

I have read most of Matt's books now and I am amazed at how he can constantly write such good books in the quick succession that he does. A House in the Country is no exception and I certainly didn't see the ending coming - a true horror shocker! What started as an idyllic move to a rambling family home ended in a nightmare situation for the family. Matt never fails to keep the pace up in his stories and I can't wait for the next one. Thanks Matt for another scarily good read that had me listening for creaks in the night!

After Torture I didn't think it could get any better but hang on to your hat (and your stomach!) this charges along relentlessly!
Matt has succeeded in creating a fast paced, original story that sums up all that you fear in the event of a zombie invasion. I loved the way in which the story unfolded and swapped from one scenario to the next effortlessly. It had me hoping that Nicola and her dad would make it but knowing Matt's style of writing from the beginning I very much doubted it!

Thank you Matt for a book that bit at the jugular and didn't let go!

5.0 out of 5 stars How far would you go?, 23 May 2014

Another (literally) ripping yarn from Matt! This book is a slight deviation (yes I feel that is the right word to use in more ways than one about Mr Shaw!) from the norm but I must admit probably one of my favourites to date. I love the subtle way other Matt books are referred to in this book and it all fits so neatly in place with the story.

Thank you Matt another great book - can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy and hard to put down!, 28 Feb 2014

I have only recently discovered the books of Matt Shaw and WOW he certainly ticks all the gore boxes! From the first story in the collection to the last it's a rollercoaster of riveting reading and I found it hard to put the kindle down and leave a story partly read as I wanted to find out the fate of the characters! Smile is definitely the creepiest story for me as it involves ..... well I won't spoil it for you but it involves two of my pet hates one being shopping arcades and the other .........Yuck!!! Read the book - you won't be disappointed. I now intend to read the Story Collection Part 2 and then venture into the Cabin for some dark chills. Don't forget to keep smiling! Thanks Matt!
