2.0 out of 5 stars okay..., 7 Aug 2014

Ed McBain is always worth trying, but here we were going through the motions.
Too much plot, not enough character
Sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars I am a count, not a saint, 10 April 2014

This is, of course, the perfect escapist melodrama, and I love it. The count's manservant, Luis Guzman, steals every scene in which he appears, the woman the count loves is worth any sacrifice, and the main villain is tremendously villainous! The script is extremely sharp, and altogether this film is a triumph of escapology - and not just from the Chateau d'If! My favourite film, indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good story, 10 April 2014

A well-made, undemanding, popular drama set in an interesting period of English history. The story develops well and the main character is very human, if a trifle too anxious to please.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent informal leather coat in a lovely colour, 10 April 2014

An excellent product, with very soft leather. My wife loves it and has asked for a smaller size as she is losing weight!

5.0 out of 5 stars An aboriginal original, 16 Jan 2014

What a lovely sequence of stories! Magical realism, or real magic? I don't know! I loved these tales, and wish I were the uncle who acts as narrator.; and most of all I love the impetuous wombat, who has yet to learn how to count up to three... These stories work for children of all ages, and will appeal especially to adults reading them to children, as there is something for all parties as a gentle irony falls like rain on all concerned… They work as stories, and they work as parables, and they use the right words. Should we write 'down' for children? Never!

4.0 out of 5 stars Breathless? Yes!, 16 Jan 2014

A curious ending to an intriguing story of nostalgic appeal. Are we in Mills and Boon territory? I think we are; and it may not be quite convincing, but it carries one along quite nicely.

A medical drama with a little too much drama. Tense, exciting and disturbing. The main character is overdone, but not to worry. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Go, George E!, 16 Jan 2014

Anything adapted from George Elliott is worn watching, and this is good, well-made, quality stuff, dealing with real people facing real issues. A nice relationship between father and adopted son, well played by both actors. The love affair is not quite convincing.

A wonderful drama, hypnotic throughout. Extremely well acted - a Birmingham western, with a wonderful Belfast chief of police! Well done all, writers, stagers, and actors alike. The best TV drama I have seen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite examined enough, but you can't have everything - or can you?, 16 Jan 2014

Easy to read and mildly interesting, but does not leave a permanent memory: not for Desert Island Discs, but a good read once.
