4.0 out of 5 stars A mixed-bag but ultimately satisfying, 1 Nov. 2013

There have been a lot of harsh reviews against this book which are unfair. When compared to the master-work that was THE SECRET HISTORY, the book does pale in comparison (as most books do), but as a standalone novel it is a well written and (at times) gripping read.

It is overlong, and there are a few character arcs that should have been cut-out all together and the first half of the book doesn't know what it wants to be, but stick with it, and you are rewarded.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling page-turner, 17 Aug. 2012
Control Point was a gripping thrill-ride from the first page to the last. A great story with brilliant charachters including our hero Oscar Britton. You may think you've seen or read stories about normal people gaining special powers, but this takes it to a whole new level (and world) and is like nothing you've read before. It ends with a brilliant cliffhanger, and i can't wait for book two next year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, hilarious and insightful, 24 May 2012
This review is from: Tuffers' Cricket Tales (Hardcover)
I finished the book this afternoon and had to post a review. It was brilliant! Phil's stories are classics, I've learnt so much about what goes on in the dressing room before, during and after a match that I'll never look on a match in the same way.

Fans of cricket and fans of the man himself will love the book.

There is no better storyteller in sports writing than Jeff Stelling. This book had me in stitches and was full of really interesting and hilarious tales. If you're a football fan and want to find out what goes on in Stelling towers, get this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price for the complete collection!, 19 April 2012
The whole Beast House Chronicles series for this price is well worth the purchase! They are all great stories (especially Beast House and Midnight Tour) and are filled with a real sense of dread and terror. Read before you go to sleep and your dreams will be filled with terryfying images. Not for the faint-hearted!

This was an excellent read. A strong mystery story and a very creepy atmosphere add up to classic Richard Laymon. The descriptions and language used are great and make it a hard book to put down! I'm glad all the Laymon books are being released on ebook. It's about time!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Read, 13 Feb. 2012
This review is from: The Snow Child (Hardcover)
Rarely do I feel genuinely moved a book, but with The Snow Child i was overcome with emotion! It really is a beautiful, captivating and heart-warming book with charachters you will instantly relate to. The bleak, crisp Alaskan setting is described with such detail that you can imaging the biting winds and quiet landscape.

This book was originally bought for my girlfriend but I picked it up and couldn't put it down. Not just a book for the female market.

Beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most honest autobiography out there, 18 Nov. 2011
This was a gripping, honest and touching book, which you can tell was written from the heart. Never before have I read such an open account of someone's career and life.
I can't recommend this book enough. One of the greatest sportsmen of out time delivers the most powerful book of the year

The Faithless is a great return to form. It gripped me from the brutal opening chapter right through to the very end. Full of twists and turns that will stay with you for days after. This is classic Martina Cole.
