5.0 out of 5 stars HOW MANY MILES TO BABYLON (BBC TV FILM ), 17 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a stunning piece of Television. This would stand up today as both a beautiful and harrowing tale of two people who found friendship and Lost everything.

The motifs and cinematography are both stunning and lovely . shame some more clean up work couldnt have been undertaken, but its a minor quibble.

If this was the album that borought the band together, then this is the one that should be heralded as the start of the journey for the Communards. With its politcal slant, Joyous abandment and hedonism , and crusade to get equal rights for homosexuals.

this delux edition gives you everything you had on vynil and adds a few bits and bobs to the mix. All on shiny digital disc

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the japan most people will recognise, 2 July 2013

This is not the fey, ghosts type David Sylivian, this is the punk rock group trying to find a place and feel thier voices and experimenting with sound and words. Not always successful but always worth listening to . Without this sort of record, japan would never have got to the heights of Tin Drum or Quet life

Soemthing to cherish from Records gone by. Non of the modern record compaine would allow this sort of develpoment to happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars With hundreds and thousands, its having your cake and eating it, 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With so many versions of one song, it might put people off thinking this is just filler. It is not it is a whole collection package that is never dull and always footstompinly postive. even with the sadness Jimmy evokes in some of his songs, or the agression of WHY, there is still something vibrate and uplifiting in everything on offer here.

This is the soundtrack to getting the rights for GLBT people across the country if not the world started. and now look where we are at

5.0 out of 5 stars Still rlevant today as it was then, 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Red / Storm Paris (Audio CD)
If there was ever a band (and at nearly 11 people by the end of the journey) then a band this really is. I know Cole and Sommerfield tend to take all the plaudis and rightly so in many instances (song writing, musician ship, vocals) but Sarah jane Morris and the rest do need to be there rather than make up the numbers.

Much better as a live group the additinal Storm paris collection really is the highlight of this Delux edtion with some wonderful sleeve notes this brings the best of the Communards to the Digital world

oh and thre really is more to love than Boy meets girl. An anthem if ever there was one

3.0 out of 5 stars More dreary lists and "Douglad Adams type foolery", 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I tend to find fihers ideas rather dry and academic (his new Audiobook version of Doctor who feel like I am listening to Academic research books rahter than a good Novel)

Well here it is again , only this time its original. With a dash of Douglas Adamas type humour that I think comes across more from Lalla Ward`s reading than the novel itself. But it really did seem to drone on and one for so long one forgot what was happening.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great third Doctor Story, 30 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very good , well written, story about the 3rd Doctor and the Master. If some-what co-incidental within its plot . people need to be in certain places to fulfil the function of the story rather than needed for the plot itself. Especially the Helecopter trips back and forth to the oil platform.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another strong story in the 5oth anniversary special adventure, 30 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent reading form Sophie Aldred (ACE on tv) Excellent storyline form James Swallow . This is where the plot of this series (destiny of the Doctors) starts to give out alittle more info than the earlier ones, due to its position within the narrative structure of the storyline

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best ever "unoffical" DR WHO books ever published, 30 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have read many a Doctor Who Book, both offical and unoffical . I have absored more info that is proably healthy. Charles Norton has proably taken in even more Information in regards Doctor who films (both those that made it to the screen and those that havent) .

All that Information is here. Plots, behind the scenes Fiascos, little details of incident that might otherwise get missed. Everything. Including the Kitchen Sink. This is the definitive Book on the Doctor who at the movie (until the next movie make its to screen and an update is on the way) I only hope Charles Norton is able to do the 2nd edition in 2025 .

With so much research and its collections of facts and figures, with some wonderful writing, and a great eye for detail (see chapters discussing teletext, Films and film makers no one knows where they are or what happened to them or thier movies/scripts)

This book is highly recommended

Doctor Who - Meglos [DVD]

3.0 out of 5 stars Meglos. Last of the zulpha Thurans, 17 Nov 2010
This review is from: Doctor Who - Meglos [DVD] (DVD)
With Meglos one has to unravel a few things, that are not obvious to start with. A cacti wanting to take over the universe with a holy relic. Lets start big and blod and colourful and even at times witty.

But its was made to be shown in 1980 and was even by then standards a very poor seventies throw back style of Story .

With so much time taken to line shots up shots and takes using the new scene sync system the episodes under ran so having none or little time for take twos etc. the episodes suffered the most with coming in times as 00:24:43:18 | DOCTOR WHO - MEGLOS - PART ONE
00:21:25:22 | DOCTOR WHO - MEGLOS - PART TWO
00:21:19:04 | DOCTOR WHO - MEGLOS - PART THREE
00:19:33:10 | DOCTOR WHO - MEGLOS - PART FOUR

with 24.20 being an example of the technical requirements and edit timings the final three episodes are out by a good 15 mins. from a normal 4 part story.

DVD EXTRAS

I Do Hope MEGLOS MEN the making of fills in the problems with the behind the scenes stories, while Scene Sync will simply explain how things moved on from CSO to the the Scene sync method. (still looks like sticks and feathers and glue and hope compared to Today's magic and mayhem by using Computers like a felt tip pen.

Biographies can be a nightmare depending on what the person did in life, death, and then costs involved with using clips and photos. this is a beautiful and less structured biography of a Doctor who Star (coming as she does from Barbara Wright. Actress Jacqueline Hill.

A great DVD added to the range (nearly all coming in the next 2 years ) and another season complete for those marathon season watch games
