The Shroud Maker (Wesley Peterson Book 18)
The Shroud Maker (Wesley Peterson Book 18)
Price: £4.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and unusual series, 19 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Blending past and present crimes seamlessly, Kate Ellis here has another murder and disappearance for her engaging Inspector Wesley Peterson to investigate. Set in Devon, where Wesley has been transferred with his family, my only criticism would be that probably the peripheral characters such as his wife, Pam, are not drawn strongly enough.

This review is from: Lighthouse Bay (Kindle Edition)
Definitely a woman's book, no disrespect intended. Enjoyable romantic romp, in two different timescales, set in Australia, either at the turn of the century or in the here and now. Naturally both have strong female characters persevering against all odds.

No Cause for Concern (Marcus Corvinus Book 13)
Price: £2.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Murder Roman Style, 1 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A pacy and complex case for investigator Marcus Corvinvus, involving two murders, embezzlement, and shipping of stolen goods all related in a definitely flippant style. A good read but I happen to prefer the Falco novels myself.

The Double Silence: Anders Knutas series 7

4.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing Swedish Dramatists in, 31 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Really gripping investigation for Knutas and his team following a death on an island in Gotland. Complicated relationships between a group of friends holidaying there lead to surprising revalations. Also a good subplot concerning his assistant, Karen, and her search for the daughter she had adopted as a baby.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complicated Crimes in the Perigord, 29 May 2014

A more complicated investigation for Chief of Police Bruno Courreges in the small French town of St Denis. Following on from the death of an old member of the French Resistance, the trail leads on to the shipping abroad of stolen antiques, murder and mayhem with interest from the secret service as well. Bruno manages to ride his horse, train his new puppy, look after his geese, grow his own produce, cook wonderful meals, solve crimes and keep two women relatively happy. Wow, what a man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Historical Roman Series, 28 May 2014

In my opinion, this is one of the best of the Medicus investigations, combining fascinating details of the workings of the Roman governance of Britain AD. with a touching relationship between a Roman doctor and his British wife from the Iceni tribe.

2.0 out of 5 stars Start of a trilogy, 26 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I must admit I kept on reading this rather engrossing novel although I, personally found most of the characters quite irritating. It's a very easy read but not one of her best so I don't think I shall be reading the rest of this trilogy. Although atmospheric, I didn't think it had a lot of substance.

A Darkness Descending (SANDRO CELLINI Book 4)
Price: £1.79

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Florentine Mystery from Christobel Kent, 23 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Sandro Cellini, retired from the police and now a private investigator, is drawn into the mystery of why a rising politicians wife apparently committed suicide in the seaside resort of Viareggio. Complex and well drawn characters abound, together with two interesting sub plots, one involving the missing young daughter of Sandros best friend and the other about the health of his own wife, Louisa. Reeks of genuine atmosphere.
