5.0 out of 5 stars Great 2nd Album, 12 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am a huge fan of There Will be Fireworks and their first self title album is on constant rotation with Midfield Maestro as one of my all time favourites. I am not one who would issue 5 stars for every album i like, those are reserved for those special once in a Lifetime Albums.

The 2nd Album comes quite a while after their excellent Because Because EP and the whilst the tone and atmosphere of this album is reflective of their earlier work it certainly has matured into a slightly darker place. The album name does reflect alot of the music, Dark themes with life afirming Bright tones. Songs like River, Here is Where and South Street do stand out from a well crafted album, but this isn't a collection of songs, this is an album. It has themes, tones, depth and a singular vision which a lot of artists fail to create these days.

This is an excellent a mature and thought provoking album, touching on personally difficult themes with a delicate touch and poetic bent uncommon in a lot of music. This is an excellent return to form from a much underrated and under promoted Scottish band. May they have excellent success with this. BUY IT

UPDATE - Having had the album for a month now, i can't stop listening too it, so have upped the rating from 4 stars to 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, What a sound and what an album, 16 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this last night and have already played it through 3 times, their sound is unique and utterly compelling. The use of two different singers gives the album and great mix with each track having a different vibe and feel. The writing is fantasical with thought provoking images and a great sense of surreal. I only bought this album having heard them on Graeme Norton show and i am so glad I did. This will be a favourite for several years to come. Sod the x factor rubbish, this is real talent and all the way from sunny Iceland.

Very subtle and beautiful album, one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2012 for me. Having heard the Great Exhale once was enough for me to buy the album, but i keep finding myself going back to this album time and time again. Never really heard of this band before, but i will certainly take notice of them now. Try it, you'll like it and for 3.99, it's about the same price as a pint of beer now so well worth it.

What a great album, from a guy with probably the best voice i've heard in years, take Ray La Montagne and double that deep gutteral roll and throw in some great blues and rock tracks with a toe tapping beat and you have The Shovel vs The Howling Bones. Outstanding rocking album with some amazing blues riff and some quality song writing as well, i bought this on whim and i am so glad i did. Checked out the guys website, he's opening Ice Cream Socials in Texas, but i think in a year he'll be huge.

I got this on the 2 for a tenner, best £5 i ever spent.

Excellent bag, really sturdy built and nice and subtle for when you are walking around towns and cities. Managed to pack enough lenses and gear for 3 weeks shooting in the desert, didn't miss my lowpro packback once. Comfortable on the shoulder and for £60 and real steal.

Subtle, powerful, sublime, magical and breathtaking all at the same time. The real gem of 2011, the opening tune with the sounds of the pub going makes you feel like you are walking through this little boozer, with pint in hand, heading for the two guys in the corner who are playing their music just for you. Amazing album that will stick inside your grey matter long after the music has stopped. This is an album for this moments when you need to take stock and calm down.

From the first hand claps to the last chord this is one great album. I have had this album for over 5 years now and i must listen to a track off it at least once a week, if not more. When you consider that Seth produced this album in his kitchen, coupled with his great story-telling, this makes it an amazing album. It is without a doubt in my top 100 and would be knocking on the door of the top 10. Buy it, you will love it

Don't get me wrong, it's a decent album from a decent band but it's not brilliant, like some other reviews. The use of 5 stars has to be reserved for game changing albums which will last in your memory till the day you die.

I've had it for a few weeks now and it's not ever going to make it into my top 100 albums of all time. The 5 star rating some people have given it is more than generous i feel.

It's the kind of album that you'll come across on your mp3 every now and again, and go "oh i haven't heard that in a while". You'll listen to it, enjoy it but then soon forget it. Some albums will stay with you forever, whilst this is decent, it's also slightly forgettable. Worth £3 of anyone's money though
