KHALED / SAHRA

5.0 out of 5 stars Khaled's pièce de résistance, 1 Aug. 2010
This review is from: KHALED / SAHRA (Audio CD)
Khaled is known worldwide as the "King of Raï" and has become the most internationally famous Algerian singer in the Arab World and across many continents. "Sahra" published in 1996 is in my opinion his most accomplished album to date and has lost nothing of his freshness today. It includes his most known hit "Aïcha" but also the all time live favourites such as "Sahra", "Wahrane, Wahrane" or "Ki Kounti" and the remix of his first big hit - "Didi" (performed at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa).
The music goes beyond the traditional raï limitations, Khaled is taking the most of other genres: hip hop, reggae or contemporary French music. Fantastic arrangements, great production and powerful vocals make this album a must in every world music fan collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good compilation of Arabic music, 31 July 2010
This review is from: Arabian Masters 1 (Audio CD)
Always wanted to try Arabic music music but never knew where to start? Well, here is the answer to all your questions! This compilation is a unique blend of classic and modern music and represent a good sample of artists and countries from the EMI Arabia catalogue. We have here representatives from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. This is the first CD of a series of 4 various artists compilations published under the "Arabian Masters" logo. Its is an essential CD for those who wants to know more the music as well as for those who just want to have a flavour of it.

You don't have to know the language to feel the emotions behind those dramatic performances. It's a musical insight to the Arabic soul.

Lebanese Cooking (The Australian Women's Weekly Minis)
Lebanese Cooking (The Australian Women's Weekly Minis)
by Mary Coleman
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book, 31 July 2010
I was offered this book as a gift and this is why I joined the "Australian Women's Weekly" cooking books fan club. The booklet includes an index, a glossary and a conversion chart (very useful) as well as - finally - some recipes I can make at home using ingredients I don't have to look for in specialist shops.
Great little book and very affordable indeed.

Samsung SM2033SW 20-inch Wide Gloss Black TFT Monitor

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality product, 31 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am not a PC expert and bought this monitor after seeing someone using it. The delivery and the packaging were perfect.
Some people complained it was difficult to put together - this is not my impression - put it together with no problems. The next comment was that it is wobbly - again, depends what do you with or on your desk - mine is stable and the monitor seems absolutely fine with it.
It's working fine to date so I would definitely recommend it.

A Bridge Over The Mediterranean By Michel Elefteriades
A Bridge Over The Mediterranean By Michel Elefteriades
Offered by Musical Notes
Price: £6.79

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful musical bridge, 31 July 2010
I bought this album after seeing the Chechade Brothers live and I don't regret it. The music is beautifully arranged, accessible and refreshing. Forget about the Arabic fusion albums and give yourself a chance to listen to something authentic. The Chehade brothers are talented musicians as well as the other instrumentalists present on the album.

1.0 out of 5 stars Something very dangerous indeed..., 31 July 2010
This review is from: Something Dangerous (Audio CD)
This a very sad fall for those keeping the fingers crossed for Natacha. Those who bought and enjoyed Diaspora and Halim. I read somewhere this album was supposed to break Atlas into the US market, what for? She always had a strong European fanbase forgiving her all her musical and non-musical flaws.
This album is a horrible medley of reggae, Hindi, hip-hop breaks and full of guests but brings no joy for those aware of the singer's talent and flair for fusion of Arabic vibes with electronica.
There are songs which are a far reminiscence of what Natacha used to be (Adam's Lullaby, When I Close My Eyes) but the majority of songs are simply horrible (Eye of the Duck or the title song for instance), including another horrible cover song.

The Whirling Dervishes Of Damascus: LES DERVICHES TOURNEURS DE DAMAS
The Whirling Dervishes Of Damascus: LES DERVICHES TOURNEURS DE DAMAS

5.0 out of 5 stars An exploration of the classical Arabic music, 31 July 2010
This album of the Al-Kindi Ensemble run by the French-born Muslin Jalal Eddine (Julien Jalal Eddine Weiss) is a great insight into what is often described as the Sufi music. The idea behind this music is simple but the way it was built up and developed leaves the western listener astonished.
Shaykh Hamza Shakkur praises God and its love whilst the musicians reply to him. They use classical instruments such as qanun, nay, ud, riqq and duff to alternate fine preludes with subtle arabesques. It is difficult to describe a performance aimed at describing God, especially if you don't understand the words. However in this case the music is as powerful as the words.
This edition is accompanied by a booklet in French and English including the musicians bios, a short story of the Al-Kindi Ensemble and some very interesting information on the Great Ummayad Mosque, Sufism in Syria as well as the whirling dervishes. The booklet contains some high quality pictures of the mosque and the group and also makes this double album worth buying.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed overall, 31 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Overpriced compared to other products available elsewhere. Does its job no better or worse than other products but you would expect a better performance for that price. Also, leaves black stains-like or marks on your nose which have to be washed straight after. Other similar products I have used did not leave marks.

I also bought this adaptor to charge the battery of my Oral B toothbrush. It does the job and was the cheapest available when I needed it. Had no problems with the item, the packaging and the delivery.
