Beautiful prose but ultimately unsatisfying, 14 Nov 2011
Chris Roberts writes beautiful, lyrically descriptive, prose in this short piece about a young, talented and successful published poet as she struggles with deteriorating mental health and an unresolved family scandal that threaten to destroy her.
The great: wonderful descriptive prose.
The good: Chris either has the knowledge, or imagination, to make the characters and situations believable.
The bad: The story is too complex to be a piece of short fiction - it really needs to be a much longer novel as too much is skated over to allow us to become involved and to make this as rewarding a read as it could, or should, be.
That said it is an introduction to an exiting, new talent and I hope he publishes a full length novel in the near future.
