The Shakespeare Guide to Italy: Retracing the Bard's Unknown Travels
The Shakespeare Guide to Italy: Retracing the Bard's Unknown Travels
by Richard Paul Roe
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.99

5.0 out of 5 stars What do the Stratfordians think of this?, 19 Nov 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You can't argue with Mr Roe's assiduous research and his findings are pretty conclusive, the author had travelled in Italy, which leaves William Shakespeare warming his toes by the fire in Stratford while the real author was travelling having completed a university education and studied law.

Wriothesley's Roses in Shakespeare's Sonnets, Poems and Plays
Wriothesley's Roses in Shakespeare's Sonnets, Poems and Plays
by Martin Green
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent research, 25 April 2014

A pretty conclusive exposition of the identity of the 'Fair Youth' of the Sonnets. Well written and rigorously researched. Identifying Henry Wriothesley as the subject dovetails nicely with the identity of 'Shakespeare' that is proposed in The Master of the Ceremonies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The modern Romeo and Juliet, 8 Dec 2013
This review is from: A Whole New World (Audio CD)
We all know they should be together, they are the perfect couple, but unfortunately their story didn't end with the Romeo and Juliet ending we had all hoped for. There's still time. I'm just reading Pete's favourite book The Master of the Ceremonies: The hand of Shakespeare

The Apocryphal William Shakespeare: Book One of A 'Third Way' Shakespeare Authorship Scenario

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant piece of research, 7 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are very few books which actually offer a glimpse into the 'real' author, the gap between the high level of education apparent in the plays and William Shakespeare's Stratford upbringing is a quandry that has split the world of academia in two. A handful of recent books have begun to erode the Stratford myth with well researched and scholarly forays into the content of the plays. Sabrina Feldman's book presents a comprehensive examination of the Apochrypha plays which were attributed to W.S. while many of the great plays were published anonymously or not at all (until First Folio in 1623). While examining the evidence Feldman presents several arguments that also remove the Earl of Oxford from the running as a 'candidate' for authorship. In the emerging genre of scholarly authorial debate this book ranks alongside Shadowplay and The Master of the Ceremonies as a groundbreaking piece of work free from the usual conspiracy theories and nonsense that spoils many books on the authorship debate.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst candidates ever proposed., 25 April 2013

On the face of it The Truth Will Out seems an earnest enough effort to solve the centuries-old mystery of who actually wrote Shakespeare's plays, but just a few pages in one begins to smell a rat. There is no hard evidence presented here, every 'supposition' is decorated with 'maybe's', 'could have's' and 'possibly's' in such profusion that I had to grab a highlighter and start marking them! The one great pleasure that can be had with the book is the comic frequency with which the authors have quantified their massive conjecture. Here's a choice example of their effort:-

The next four years were PROBABLY among the most satisfying of Nevill's life; they WERE CERTAINLY among the most productive. In this period which ended with his appointment as Ambassador to France, HE PROBABLY wrote eight plays. MANY WERE IN HIS HISTORY SEQUENCE, to which he APPARENTLY gave a more political edge as he SEEMINGLY became involved with the growing movement in support of the Earl of Essex. HIS PLAYS became more profound, even HIS so called comedies such as The Merchant of Venice, which was probably composed around 1596-7. In this period Neville also created HIS most popular character, Falstaff, and PROBABLY wrote most of his greatest patriotic play, Henry V.

And on it ploughs for 350 turgid pages. Don't waste your time or your money on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant depiction of Marrakech in the 50's, 3 April 2013
I very much enjoyed this book, it echoes my own experiences in Marrakech half a century later and is a must-read book for anyone planning a visit or who has been. Very little has changed!
