Abule Oje: Village of Masquarades
Abule Oje: Village of Masquarades
by Eberekpe Whyte
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.95

3.0 out of 5 stars CREATIVE* TOUGHT PROVOKING* MOTIVATING, 9 Feb. 2009
This work is done with a wonderful creativity and holds philosophical view points that both challenges the complaisant on one hand and convene with the rational satisfaction of any one who is displeased with the continuous depreciations of societal virtues by the so called guardians of these virtues.
Abule Oje is an engaging theatrical piece with unique literary skills.
Whereas I must confess that, like Wole Soyika's works, it is full of expressions that could sometime confuse one's trail of thought the plot and overall work however relates the bitter truth of what goes on in the name of politic - especially African politics. I recommend the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC AND MODERN, 29 Dec. 2006
The work of this unknown writer is really age long but its truth still makes relevant impact to the tick of contemporary clocks with respect to the art and practice of prayer.

Reading this book brings to mind the very thought of Spiritual Generals such as C H Spurgeon, George Müller , Hudson Taylor , etc.

These men lived in a time where total dependence in GOD, and HIM alone was of matter and such men relied on GOD through prayer to impact situations, processes, places and people.

The book starts by challenging our Christian consciousness with the remind of GOD's great need. A need which could be said to be sharing similarity to a Divine investigation into our swollen complacency which has carried us far from the premises of faithful ministry. Nevertheless, the author continued by reassuring of a possibility of a turn around as he reminded of certain incredible promises from scriptures before lunching further into explaining the practices principles of prayer.

Every line of the book witnesses to the fact that it was written by one who really practiced what he wrote, one who shared closeness to the one he prayed to in all fullness as GOD the LORD, FATHER, SON and SPIRIT.

IT IS A MUST TO READ.

3.0 out of 5 stars FULL OF SUSPENSE BUT LACKS REASONABLE CONCLUSION, 14 Aug. 2005
This review is from: The Body [2001] [DVD] (DVD)
I admire the ability of of the movie director to create suspense. However, The theme that the script writer had in mind is actually hard to detect in the movie.
Whereas the movie could be accredited for its ability to create suspense it however fails to end with a reasonable conclusion.
Let me keep myself from judgment and hoping that a there would be a Part II released out soon - which give a reasonable conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REVELATORY WORK, 25 May 2005
The book is absolutely revelatory. Though the work seems to have the US as focus, the sad realities in the book are reflections of what is happenning the world over. The degreees the scandal may differ, the lessons and warnings are same for all.
PLEASE READ IT. However, If you read this book and still do not feel for a need to change then you should consider the a serious need to be delivered from the art of withcraft -the sin of disobedience.

4.0 out of 5 stars SPLENDID, 7 May 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It is a kind of movie that will not be boring to any one with no religious conviction. It could be classified as closed to sci-fi movie but to the end succeed in passing the message about the end time and the need for a personal relationship with GOD.
It is actually not easy to fix biblical relevance in place in this movie exept you have a clear knowledge of the Bible references to such events.
THough this might be opposed by conventional religious practioners. It is a great movie that will attract youth to watch.

3.0 out of 5 stars LACK OF THEATRICAL IMAGINATION, 7 May 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The purpose of the movie may have been to depict in general the civil unrest across the African continent. It, however fails to achieve this. Rather it succeeded in creating a "focused misrepresentation"- a misleading perception of what may have been thought to have happened in Nigeria in the late 60's and early 70's.
The violence (rape and mutilations) depicted in the movie did not take place during the Nigerian civil crisis.
The movie lacks a fair deal of theatrical imagination in representing historical facts.
Nevertheless, a credit to the movie maker is the boldness to depict the Western diplomatic selfishness or indifference towards the suffering of other races. There would not have been any support if American citizens were not facing such deadly situations.
I will advice you watch the following movies:
HOTEL RWANDA: to understand more about this western indifference
THE INTERPRETER: to understand what I mean by LACK theartical imagination. Conveying the idea of African political greed and iunhumanity but with no single country wrongly pictured
