I bought this for my daughter who is a school teacher and is teaching Ancient Rome this year and she absolutely loved it, - said that it gave her a lot of information for her classes, and that she was able to get more information from the Internet. Would recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, 15 Feb 2013

I still enjoyed this as it had the Downton Abbey characters in it, but not half as much as when they are at Downton Abbey itself.
I didn't like the actors who played the parts of the Scottish relations.

The Channel Islands at War [DVD]
The Channel Islands at War [DVD]
Dvd ~ John Nettles

3.0 out of 5 stars Review, 5 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed seeing this as I am interested in the history of the Channel Islands, but there was original footage of the Germans taken during the war, and the quality of the film work was very poor. I felt it was a bit amateurish in the production, and would have liked to have seen something of the underground hospital that the Germans built on Jersey.

Would not really recommend it as I feel that it wasn't a very polished documentary

3.0 out of 5 stars And the Band played on, 24 Jun 2011

An interesting book but too much time was given to the father of the bandsman who died - I think more should have been written about the life of the author's mother, who was born after the death of her father on the titanic. There are only so many ways a man can be described as being a rogue (th father of the bandsman) and after that it becomes tedius and repetitious.

Overall a disappointment. I got sick of reading how underhand the father of the bandsman was.
