Many more people than me will write detailed reviews of this...but trust me...this is the best drama ever made for television..and I cannot see how it will ever be surpassed. Buy now and get lost in it...totally and utterly brilliant.

Rare review from me...but this is brilliant. Best new music heard in a long long time. Songs that get under your skin, original and accessible. Two Drummers a bass player and vocals with added dashes of synth. Just pips the Alt-j album for record of 2012. Recommended to lovers of music now with an open mind and fed up with the usual re hashing of whats gone before...but is so approachable too. Wonderful.

Others will review this in greater depth, but anyone remotely interested in good music should own this. Stunningly beautiful, very haunting, incredibly moving this is a slow burning masterpiece. Let this wash over you and be immersed in sublime melodies and restrained playing that just lets the songs shine.

Easily the best album of 2011.

Firstly lets get a few things straight. This is not a movie for twee middle class mums to watch with their daughters about being a ballet dancer. Many reviewers seem to think that would be the case. Be warned it is not. The 15 certificate may have given it away. 15 years ago it would have been an 18.

It is a very dark and bleak study of a top ballerina. And believe me Natalie Portman is outstanding. I know nothing about ballet but she seems to have put her heart and soul into this role.

Brilliantly directed, fantastically edited, superbly acted this is a visceral movie of the highest order. But as said earlier this will not be for everyone!!!

Agreeing with London Cowboy here. Enjoyed 1st album. Edgy indie dance music. It showed great potential. This? Bland and very disappointing. Every track seems to merge into one over produced dance-light boy band esque dirge. Where has the edgy funky side gone?? Sure this is a record label attempt to make them more commercially acceptable, but for me does not work. Sad.

Rarely review stuff. Buy loads of albums but this stands out in 2010. Tracks 4 through 8 are an amazing segment. Will be playing all summer.Highly recommended.

I buy a lot of music. Too much probably. Much of it is very good. Some of it not so. Very little these days is outstanding, especially from the UK. But this is. Read the other reviews for a more detailed synopsis.Easily the best record of 2009.

5.0 out of 5 stars Restores my faith in rock n roll, 20 April 2008

I am a bloke in his mid forties who grew up in the seventies on a diet of music ranging from Cream to Joni Mitchell,Led Zeppelin to Nick Drake and David Bowie to Free.

I own 1000 vinyl albums and about 600 CD's. Do not write reviews on here very often as find most are written by people only interested in a particular genre rather than a love of complete range of music.

And now to the point. This is a truly astonihing record. The best thing i have heard in years. White and Benson have combined to create a mini masterpiece. Raw powerful blues based rock n roll.

People moan about it being derivative, but heh what isn't or ever has been?

From the kickass rock of Attention to the blues/soul of Many Shades of Black this has it all.

Come on Britich bands. We made the best rock and roll in the sixties and seventies. We can do again. Am i the only one bored with a string of mediorce post punk wannabees? Rather than listening to The Velvets,Gang of Four and Joy Division....put on some Cream,Stones, Zeppelin and this and make our music more interesting again.

BUY BUY BUY. You wont be disappointed.

Firstly i am not a geek or a tech frak. I have been looking for a mp3 player for some months now but just could not decide.Had it narrowed down to the usual suspects...iPod/Zen/iRiver...but was never totally convinced. All seemed to have faults.
I then came across the gigabeat.I have a pretty large cd collection (500 + growing!!) and my prime objective was to transfer these onto the mp 3 player. I took the plunge and bought the gigabeat. It is fantastic.I keep reading the software is poor but as i said all i wanted to do was transfer my cds to the gigabeat and it is EASY!Open gigabeat room...it connects to gracenote to find album details...click riptec button...cd transferred in about 3 minutes!! The photo feature is a bonus and also have 500 plus photos stored already.
The colour screen is brilliant and every iPod owner i have shown it to is green with envy.
Sound quality is great but invest in another pair of headphones like Sennheiser PX100's.
So if you want a very cool alternative to the iPod with a miles better battery life, better colour screen and sound quality this is the one for you.
Buy now.

5.0 out of 5 stars their most underated..., 21 Nov 2003
This review is from: The Last Record Album (Audio CD)
Unfairly ignored materpiece from my favourite band. True, Lowell George was getting edged out by now but this still contains some of the best musical moments of the seventies. " Long Distance Love" will reduce any grown man to tears while " Down Below the Borderline" shimmers in its own funky glory. Richie Haywards drumming inspired me to learn and his work on "Day and Night"( he had just recovered from a bad motorcycle accident)still inspires me today. Yes, everyone prefers their earlier stuff but to me this is my most plated album ever.
