1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic diatribe, 3 Aug 2014

I bought this knowing it was fiction but not t work of a man with a warped and unhealthy fixation with the mutilation of the human genitalia. He also writes of the magnificent German army of world war two as though they were heroes to be honoured but that undoubtedly comes from his Teutonic name. To suggest too that the German language was spoken as the second language of those he writes about is also stretching the imagination. I wonder if he was ever a member of the armed forces of the United States. Any school boy with a basic knowledge of military helicopters will know that the Cobra was a first generation purpose built attack helicopter and not a troop transport as this fool writes. He also seems to forget that when a nation goes to war it is not just the troops who are fighting who must win but their political masters and folks at home. So in this case no matter how many battles were won the USA lost the Vietnam war. I would save your money and avoid this book like the plague!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent account of life in and escape from a Nazi PoW camp, 1 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The author like so many Britons of his generation was a hero who deserved better than to be murdered by Irish criminal thugs. His story of escape, capture and eventual successful escape from the alleged ultra secure Colditz is extremely interesting.

the account of this poor man's suffering by simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time is so disturbing
yet he does not portray bitterness to wards those to blame. his story feels real and the care shown to others is heart rendering.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, 29 Nov 2013

Forgetting that the dialogue between characters would have to be in most part fiction this is an excellent book. The subject was an extremely brave individual as were his colleagues who also risked their lives in the fight against the Nazis on behalf of a country that had once incarcerated them believing that they were a threat to national security. An inspiring tale well worth the read.
